Received a call that 78 year old American, Steven Blankenshif is in critical condition in SMC and desperately needs 0 Negative blood. If anyone can help, here is the number 0917-7007923. Ron
Sorry ..cant help..but I do have 2 questions.. 1. Up to what age will they accept blood from you 2. If its like seventy years of age..can you bank your own blood ?..
Here is the Philippines Red Cross blood donation guidelines. I am sure they bend them however seems fitting.
I don't know if there is any connection however I know an American with the Same first name, Last name is almost Identical except few letters are different but prononunced the same, First and last letters the same, involved in a moto accident in Sibulan same area, 1 week ago, critical at SMC needed blood but was transferred to Chong Hui in Cebu to get blood however had A+ Bloodtype, and Was 31 not 78. Coincidence or Not? Anyone know the status?
As for as I know, the Steve in SMC is suffering from liver cancer .. He was living in a large beach side house in Mag-abo.. I have known him for 2 years... age is about 68.. I am going to visit this am..Miguel
in the west 1) You can bank your own blood prior to major operations its called autologous collection and limited to 3 units, no age restrictions but have to be assessed by a physician as fit to donate. 2) In major hospitals they sometimes use "cell savers" that collect your blood during the operation filter it and return - can be expensive. Thanks for all your responses, my internet died just after I started this thread. I received a frantic call from Steve's caregiver, so I posted exactly what she later text me, except that he is alone with no family here. I later found out it is the Steve with liver Cancer. Even though I don't know him, I hope the best for him.
Just received a text that Steve had a successful operation last night and has received blood, but needs 1 more bag.
