Righto lads , this might be one you can ask your wives/gf.s , are the aswangs real , I have read about them over the years , possessing people etc. But are there 2 kinds , the aswang itself and the one that possesses people or what . I don't think I have heard of other countries other than the Philippines that believe in aswangs , what do your spouses have to say about this ? My wife believes in them , but then again does anyone remember a few years ago about the mermaid washed up at Amlan ? , apparently that was true to View attachment 11361
yeah about as true as human vampires..the yetty..leprechauns and the Easter bunny.. I put in leprechauns and the easter bunny because not all..though most of urban legends center around fear.and thus control. While the Catholic church does not officially reconize the casting out of demons publicly..Priests still are invited to bless the homes newly built and the Japanese always have the dragon dancers and tons of firecrackers to ward away and scare out and bad spirits lurking in the new business venture. You will continue to read acts such as last month in Bacolod the police arrived to a residence that was reported for lots of shouting and noise.. to find a elderly woman beheaded by her son who said she turned into an aswang. *The boogey man will get you if you dont watch out*... now go to sleep kids !
Ed , did you notice the size of the knife that is directly over the "aswangs" head , my wife tried telling me how real the picture was until I pointed out a few things , the blue packaging tape that is tied to the wings of that unfortunate Fruit Bat , and the blurry bits around the perimeter where that poor little bugger has been cut and pasted into the surrounding pic.
I've had to disprove a number of *true* photo's and stories to locals and gals I have known in my years also. In many ways they are so gullible and don't pay attention to detail.
@ Tony ~ Actually no.. I didnt blow up to see the pic full size til you pointed out things. Hey the very first time I ever came to Dumaguete to visit my now wife..uhh..2003/4? I stayed in the hotel next to the City square..whatever.. Their eatery inside was at the front window and young guys would walk by with really huge and *neato* wild blades that Rambo would have been proud to carry hoping to make a sale and showing their *wares*. I neer picked up on one as I figured it would be snagged thru customs..? Yes more *undenialable proof* photo should rightfully go first through their local *handy-dandy* Photoshop Guru !! pic only for illustrative purposes View attachment 11362
When we were still living in the US and decided we were going to try to live in Roxas City, Capiz. I started to hear the stories. We were talking thru the internet or magicjack or a regular basis by then to a couple living therein. The wife there *SWORE* that aswang truely existe (local born and bred never left the provence) but only that year the City Council had cancelled and banned the annual Aswang festival never to be seen since. Chats between my wife and other pinay ladies married to US guys you could overhear the rumors and beliefs passed on as if truth. I was surprised my educated wife actually had little beasties hiding in the shadowy corners of her brain!...lol
Tony, the picture is not that of an aswang or a fruit bat, it is of a golden crowned flying fox. There was one caught (and murdered) a few years back in Siaton. No comment on the validity of this particular picture, but they do get to 5+ feet in wingspan. Giant Golden-Crowned Flying-Fox - Bat Facts and Information Larry
Larry , I just had a look at the link , and granted the pic I posted maybe a golden crown flying fox , but are you sure the pics in your link aren't really aswangs O-| View attachment 11364 View attachment 11363 View attachment 11365
When we lived in Bacong we had a neighbor with an aswang defense system along the front of their property. It was a long fishing line tied at about 9 feet high with large fishing hooks hanging down from it about every 2 feet or so. I never saw an aswang caught in it and they said it is because their system works! Defense against the Dark Creatures | Dabawenyong Lumad
Tony...Cherry showed me the pic earlier tonight and I just glanced and figured it was a fruit bat and dismissed it. After your post I showed the wife and she agrees it is a BS picture, but still believes in the various myths...always fun. Shawn
