My Wife is a Filipino Citizen Vic, do you see any advantage to my Wife taking out the cover, or do you think it would be wiser for me to take out the Cover and pay the extra?

Reason being; I am disabled, I have had a broken leg since 1984, there are no metal plates, pins or screws to hold the break together, I have a Fatty Liver and 3x Cysts on my left Kidney and am overweight (I hope to rectify the weight once I am there and in a routine again eating 3x a day instead of 1x a day)

So should I need cover in an emergency I will no doubt be a major burden unless I have good cover...

Brian, I'm not sure but I don't think there's any difference between you taking out an insurance policy or your wife. Either way, the dependent is covered by the policy holder. However, if you take out the policy they want a copy of your ACR and you don't have that (yet) I suppose. As they don't inquire about existing health problems when you enroll, your current condition is apparently of no concern. Be aware however, that the coverage is very basic and reflects the standard way of living here. I think that's what you need to look at when deciding whether to go with PhilHealth or buy an expensive private insurance policy from companies like AXA.

I WILL have to look into that Vic as I really need to plan for the worst and hope for the best, if I should stumble and cause any major damage to where the break is I am as good as doomed! An emergency flight back to Australia would turn me into a fugitive as I am sure I would be faced with Bills in the Hundreds of Thousands, DOLLAR$ that is! :(

I spent the better part of 8+ years and thousands of Dollars back in the 80's fighting the Public General Hospital when I was presented with a Bill for $21,000 in '85 than $12,500 in '86 for Surgery in a PUBLIC Hospital, in a PUBLIC Ward, all because I was the victim of a Motor Vehicle Accident... I was disabled and unemployable, living on a single sickness benefit for ages supporting my GF and 4x kids under the age of 2 and they couldn't give a hoot in hell how I paid them, as long as I paid them, so I really don't think anything would have changed for the better since then... At least; I do not plan to test them on the matter... :(

Philhealth has a waiting period after enrollment before you can actually use it, and they do have pre-existing condition exclusions, I just cannot find that documentation. This is good info to know, too:
Philhealth Exclusions - Health Philippines NetHealth Philippines Net

(and I can vouch for the no payment for treatment of same condition within 90 days. I have a 200,000php hospital bill I owe HCH).
