The places we have enjoyed and will hit for lunch when we go to Dumaguete is the little Japanese place and Pasta King, good food and good service in my opinion.

I'm assuming you refer to Mifune as the 'little Japanese place'? I that case, I agree with you wholeheartedly - food (especially their Japanese fried rice) and their service are immaculate...

Another fabulous meal last night at Gabby's Bistro. The ribs are by far the best I've had in the Philippines. Half kilo portion, mostly all meat with very little fat or bone.

    MMM good!

I honestly never paid attention to the name of the place but the waitress from our last lunch said they were the only Japanese restaurant in Dumaguete; so I assume it is the same place.

Everything we've tried has been quite good.

There used to be a little Japanese place down the road from Pasta King. Can't recall the name. I have only ate there once and only had the grilled squid with some rice. I guess there are only so many ways to grill squid because it tasted the same as Hayahay's grilled squid, the two story bamboo Filipino joint right across the road and pretty much every other place I've had squid. It was good though. I guess the only way to screw up grilled squid is to under cook it or throw too much soy sauce on it. I guess next time I go I will try an actual Japanese dish.

Best Mexican in the Philippines - At Mike's Dauin Beach Resort last night, Mike had a special Mexican dish for a mutual friend's birthday dinner. Without exaggerating, it was far and away the best Mex I've had since leaving California 8 years ago.
Mike is considering having a Mexican Monday weekly. Sure hope he does.

His name comes up consistently when Mexican food is concerned. I have only been out there once but did not eat. Always hear good things about it.

I've only been once myself, with several members of aking Asawa's family. The grounds are pristine, the food was good, beer was cold and Service was GR8. Beach was clean as was the large pool. It was shortly after Sendong the road was horrible getting to Mike's. I'm sure it's been repaired sana. Not sure what happens to the rabbits in the cages, didn't see it on the menu. O-xI
