Philippine Base for US Ships Draws Mixed Reactions Amid China Tensions

"The Philippines and China are locked in a territorial dispute in the South China Sea. In recent years, Beijing has sent forces to occupy reefs claimed by Manila and boats from both countries have engaged in stand offs in those waters. The island of Palawan in the west Philippines is at the forefront of these tensions. Now, Manila is considering allowing the United States to base some of its own forces there."

They need to make up their mind if they want the US in the Philippines or not. I'm a bit tired of my country loaning out our military for other's problems. Would be nice if someone showed a little appreciation every now and again instead of just bashing us for "policing the world" (even if we are asked to help out with problems that do not concern us in any way). Hey Philippines, how bout you offer us some of that oil in those waters at a discounted price if you are going to use our navy to claim your territory.

I think the article mentions of a base is Palawan. Granny is going to have to catch a ferry to come out of retirement.

I always liked Olongapo/Subic. It's a pretty well rounded place for an expat...even more so now than it was just 5 years ago. If it weren't for my crazy/worthless x-wife living there I probably would have moved back a couple years ago.
