Human Trafficking came up in a recent post so I thought, it prevalent to post this today. Just a heads up but when it is happening practically on your own Doorstep, it makes you wonder. I wouldn't call it "duped". When your (and likely your parents) entire world consists of the small mountain town of Mabinay you really have no idea to what lengths people will go to make a buck. They should consider themselves lucky that they were only tricked into doing farm and house help, especially considering the much worse options in that province.
Point taken, Duped is a word the DOLE use a lot. But then that is an issue I think they should be looking at when these Adverts come out.
I don't think they have the man power to do such a thing. I think making the penalties for operating an unlicensed recruiting business should be made extreme. As with most problems in the Philippines, the laws are already in place, it's the enforcement that is slacking.
After Yolanda we ran food and building material to a few small islands north of Negros. There is a very tiny Island called Yao we went too. Very crowded, lives on producing dried fish they catch by, I found out, dynamite fishing. Soon I saw there was virtually no girls in the 18-25 years range. But, a lot of kids with semi-blond hair raised by their grand parents. Makes you think...
Call me disillusioned if you may; several years ago there was a 30 Million Dollar Lotto Draw here, I always took my Lotto Ticket in a Fortnight after paying for a Quick Pick. This time, the Winner had not come forwards for almost two weeks and I was beginning to think; "What if it was me?" :D Then I started thinking; What would I do with 30 Million Dollars? At the end of the day, I had convinced myself I would build a Centre to educate the young about the Sex Trade, the risks they were taking, giving the rescued children who had no home left to go to with understanding Family the opportunity to work their way thru High School and College with legitimate Businesses who were prepared to take these kids on as a part of their rehabilitation to escaping what I consider to be an insidious trade of human flesh... I was due to take my Lotto Ticket on the Thursday when the night before, I heard a News clip stating the Sole Winner of the 30 Million was from Queensland! :D I was beside myself, I even thanked God and told him I wouldn't let him down and sat waiting for the News to begin... It was a looonnnng wait! And then it came on... Someone in North QLD Won it... :( Ah well, I am sure that money would have disappeared within the first month so just wasn't meant to be. I pray one day there is a successful campaign to put an end to those who trade in human flesh whereby they spend a lifetime in a Prison where they are the ones who end up on the wrong end of the stick as someone else's Biatch!
