    A few pics

I want to get started on the roof trusses as soon as the rendering on the beams and columns are finished. Really dependent on the weather, the forecast is calling for a lot of rain this coming week. Actually sent the workers home yesterday right after lunch because all work is outdoor work. I'm also waiting on a couple quotes for the roof material.

Since I have a few extra EVG panels I decided to use them by the kitchen door as the wall partitions. Hopefully that, as well as an awning will fix the issues with rain coming in that door.

Thanks JP. The first garden or 2 will be more experimental so see what is going to grow OK here and with my set-up. I feel good about the dirt and manure so it should produce quite a bit once everything gets going. I want to go as natural as possible without chemical fertilizers or chemical pesticides.

Once I eventually retire for good I'd like to have a small sustaining farm that will produce most of our needs as well as the wife's families for veggies. Plus gardening will keep me busy later.

    Just a few pics

I told the workers that we are coming towards the end of the house build and would understand if they wanted to get another job that would last longer than the rest of this. Had 2 guys that told the wife they would not work on Saturday as they needed to spend time with some relatives; they did show up at the end of the day to collect their salary.

They never said they had other work lined up but have been no shows for yesterday and today; not a big deal but I would have appreciated knowing they would not be back. They were my most two experienced guys; but also not a big deal.

The only work that really needs some skills is the 2nd floor roof and floor tiles. I have a kid that used to build the sidecars for the trikes so he has some welding skills; I can lay out the trusses and actually like doing tile. The other guys have been with us for 8 months now so they have learned a few things so I can work with them.

I decided to close in 5 of the fence openings with the EVG panels, as mentioned before. We have a lot of pieces left over from being cut: Cherry wanted to use those and she was spot on as we will be able to fill in three of the areas, we'll use the remaining full panels for the other 2. It doesn't look pretty at the moment but once the rendering is done is will be OK.

If this, the 2nd floor roof overhang and an awning does not stop getting rain in then I will look at building a breezeway.

    Washing machine

There are so many things in this country that have a tendency to confuse me. One thing is the preference to wash things by hand.

My lovely wife agreed more than 2 years ago to buy a washing machine...she bought the cheapest one she could find and pretty much ignored it and continued to wash things by hand (it was gifted to her parents...who most likely will never use it).

I bought what I think will be a decent one a couple weeks ago....it sat in the box until today; did a temp water and outlet connection and put a load of wash in.

I guess you could put this into one on my rants, it is a good machine and I hate to see the wife's hands all dry because of the detergents and bleach.

The washing machine is working well...just a matter of the wife using it going forward.

Aking Asawa had an old top load machine when we met. Then I bought her a front loading machine. It took me quite awhile to convince her that she did not have to sit on a small stool in front of the washer to watch it go around. It would clean just fine on it's own. But she will still have helper hand wash the whites prior to the washing machine. Go figure.

We actually did two loads of clothes; sat down and watched the color of the water going out (hose bib and just putting the drain into our catch basins) and the wife is still not convinced we can do a better job with the washing machine.

I've watched her or her Mom washing clothes by hand; respect it big time but hope she gets into using the washing machine...

    Having fun each day....

I'm happy to be married to a lazy wife! After our wedding we left the Phils to live in my hometown and she was thrilled to bits finding a front loader washing machine and a dryer waiting for her there (apart from the dishwasher, vacuum cleaner etc.). First couple of days were filled with studying the user manuals of all this sophisticated equipment and after that she was better in using it than I was during my batchelor years. Now we are living here and she was quick finding a helper that will do the laundry and sweep sweep the floors....
