At the global warming protest march in NYC this week, the protesters left 7 1/2 tons of trash on the street (Fox News). I'm not sure of the mindset there. I read "fix my warming problem and pick up my d*mn trash". And, "Both are your problems, not mine". Boo

It was Fox reporting, so I take the quantification with a grain (or a few kilos) of salt. However, saw a picture and noticed that the available garbage cans were filled to the brim and overflowing. It seems to me that the city officials had not anticipated that many people, or simply forgot that that sort of masses create more rubbish than 'normal traffic' and that additional garbage facilities may be required / advisable.

Most trash either came in a bag, or is itself a bag. These people are obviously far too important to carry their trash until they find a receptacle that has room. Of course the city is supposed to idiot proof life for them from cradle to grave. It is obviously the city's fault. Not. If necessary I see no reason not to carry ones trash all the way home to dispose of it. Are you telling us that you would also throw your trash on the ground in a like situation?

Our rubbish situation is quite a bit different.....not saying we don't have a problem - but our country (Australia) is pretty clean. Have had visitors from Singapore complimenting the cleanliness of roads, parks,, highways, and public places.. There are idiots everywhere. But we do have significant fines for littering....and the issue is high enough in citizens minds that many who do toss cans, wrappers, etc out the window - are likely to be followed from someone who takes their license plate details and phones them in, Same for those with heavily smoking exhaust pipes....reported a few myself. Get the innocents involved to report the thoughtless....It's the only way....

Why is it that in todays world everyone looks to the government to solve our problems. Are we really so helpless that the idiots in charge are more on the ball than we are? How about requiring the organizations that are putting these things on to clean up after themselves otherwise no permits. Let them pay for it.

I had a knucklehead friend back in the day that I use to chide for his littering. His retort was that some one was kept employed by his doing so. HUH? [IMG]

When I First left the RAF I worked for a contract Cleaning Company. You are quite right in what you say, most of the land sites that rent out to these activities have a clause in the letting Contract reference to cleaning up the site But as with most things, the Money earner is off gone and don't care what happens after. The Company I Worked for had contracts with the main Organisers , who had a final Invoice Retention clause. You would be Surprised, what can be achieved when money is owed.
