When I was young I could have thrown the grenade that far. As a lowly E1 in basic training we were training with grenade simulators and there was a wire with strips of cloth 25 meters downrange that the grenades must get across. Noting how many people were running alot farther to fetch their grenades back so they could be rearmed, I threw mine so it landed about 2 feet inside the line and rolled just under it. The instructor said "Ok Rambo, throw it as far as you can this time" which I did with it landing in the treeline. I was then told to go fetch it. Unknown to me before he spoke up, there was a Major standing behind me. He told the instructor "No, you go get it, and if you're smart you won't tell anyone else to thow it as far as you can again". There is some small justice in the world. Wish I could have saved the justice for a time it would have really mattered.
Rambo didn't come out til well after my military days. I never saw a DI get put in place. I did see one of my instructors a couple years later, his name was Appel. He hated to be called apple by the time I saw him I was the same rank as he so I couldn't get enough of calling him apple. :old:
