It depends on what they see in you when you mingle.. First impressions do apply and if you inherited a LONG NOSE from your german side, then that will preceed you along the way and they will all see your nose and know you by that..... Not speaking Bisaya will not do you any good if you have a long nose and even if you spoke Bisaya well, they would all see a long nose speaking bisaya well....... I f you dont have a long nose, then maybe you will fit in fine as english speaking is accepted... If you post photos, maybe we can tell you if its likely that Moses joshua at Siliman will try to recruit you into fashion or model pageants for hybrid looknig filipinos at siliman U.....

My nose is pretty long and my bisaya is only minimal bits I've picked up from having a bisaya mother in my youth. I've been trying to mingle at all the events I've been To in my two weeks here but people are just hard to talk to when they start referring to nosebleeds and hurot ang akong English. I'm still getting a stonewalled feeling when seeing groups of guys and as soon as I sit with them the conversation ends. 've also been in the towns more than dgte though as I don't get to move into my dgte apartment until November 1. Lol here's my Silliman application photo.

Understandable but the differences arent as intense as the differences between cultures in Los Angeles.

My advice is to find the middle to upper class locals to mingle with. They have a bit larger of a world view than some of the poorer Filipino. Nothing against the poor, many are great people, they just don't know how to socialize with foreigners. To many of them, we truly are "alien". Their world is a much different one than ours. In my experience it's not them "stonewalling" you, they are nervous and just have no clue what to talk to you about.

Discover for yourself my friend. Try and find a soul mate to share your objectives with. Be open, humble, and understanding. Watch out for the snakes in the grass. Good luck.

Might not be easy my dear, most of mixed kids in Silliman university are having difficulty in the beginning, some of them did not succeed in finishing their studies. They end up going back to where their homeland was. My daughter had difficulty on her 4 years and 6 months in Silliman. Although she was born and raise here but still she was more loner most of the time at school(which I find it good at the end).

She was good on her academics and was in varsity during her first year. We made sure she was always busy at school to avoid bad influence during her free time. As parents we are on close guard due to some of our expats friend’s kids are mostly spoilt brat and doesn’t go to school regularly. We send her out of the country every semester/summer break for better exposure to the outside world.

She was born and raise here, she speaks bisaya and foreign language but she struggled in making friends, she said she has no close friend in Silliman. She met some random upper class gals/boys but they were bad influenced. Most of them are into drugs(meth & weed, drinking habits, partying and lazy to go to school. Most of them beg her for an answer during exams. And, she couldn’t relate to any of their conversations(mostly are too shallow and close mentality).

She goes to school and home 6days a week, watched movie at robinson’s alone, eat her lunch alone, shopping alone, she went out for a date few times but all was boring nonsense boys she said.

Finally her challenge is going to end soon- in 2 days she will finished her studies and will continue her master’s degree abroad.

Now my few cents for you, just like my daughter every kids is a foreigner here- weather you wanna fit in or not- you have to survive ALONE to get your goal. You may get involve with sports, literature club, performing arts, diving and etc. to make yourself entertain. You can make friends as you like and always try to find ways to survive. Very important also is an elder family guardian to assist and guide you constantly.
