A massive understatement! Sad these people are still suffering even after all the international aid that was given. Someone should have to answer to where all the money and goods that were meant to help those in the area. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/31/tacloban-a-year-after-typhoon-haiyan Thanks to Dave for emailing me the link to post on the forum.
I visited the place last May and yes my question was the same. Where did all the money go? Have tried to upload some photos but not able to!
Really hope this works 7pics from May 2014 https://www.flickr.com/photos/52857915@N03/sets/72157649082510825
Here a short presentation of our aid projects after typhoon Yolanda. It's all in german, but the pics and numbers speak for itself.
Another article about Haiyan. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...ilies-still-living-in-tents-a-year-later.html Wow!
Malfeis Anyone on the ground, helping is to be admired but.... Interested to know how many homes are now built. What percentage has the Government paid for and what if any barriers have been constructed to help prevent another occurrence ? It has always made me question, not just Philippines but worldwide where the Aid and financial support given with good heart end up. The people of Britain gave well over £150 Million alone. Sorry to say I did not see any great signs of construction only some road and bridge repairs, when my wife and I visited in May.
Long-nose tax. Supplies for a house that would normally cost $5k or less now cost $20k. Contractors raping the people of the region is likely a huge part of the problem. The rich will get richer from the reconstruction of the region.
I just lost my post, however maybe it's better not read I find it immoral that all the money millions and millions has just disappeared. The World opened up its heart to the Philippine people at the time of the typhoon. Corruption at any level is deplorable, but at times of crisis even worse. My own viewing of the situation in May left me shocked at these "forgotten People"
Ring some bells and pray. I'm sure that will make those houses get rebuilt faster. The article claims they helped with aid but also mentions it was sent in from donations from other people. Wouldn't it be nice if the church would give back at least a small percentage of what people have given to them to build and maintain their nice churches and properties? I don't have the stats but I'm going to bet that the Catholic church has spent more on rebuilding their own buildings than they have in helping out the people in Leyte. Time to start forcing religious organizations to pay taxes. They are nothing more than a business.
It really makes me cringe when I hear the words "Catholic church" ! I asked the wife when your mum had a small stroke did you ask the church for help, she was too embarrassed to answer. All the times her family have given to them and they don't give a cent, don't suppose anyone has ever seen a poor priest in any country! I worked for the Church of England in the uk looking after some of their properties for retired priest etc and was no different,it's also interesting how they invest their money and In some interesting company's which I will not name here! Take, take and take with no thought of the poor arghhh, what's happeng to people In this world, greed is taking over and only $ signs in their head with no thought to the poor. Religion is a business and always will be and certain people need to learn very quickly before it's too late. Do you they give a crap about the people, I don't think so. Sorry if this offended anyone but I think the majority will agree.
