I want to bring my wife with me to the U.S. to visit my family for christmas. Can I just bring our marriage certificate and her passport to the US embassy in Manila and they can process a tourist visa right away so we can just hop on a plane from Manila and go directly from there to the US. We only plan on being in the U.S. for a week or 2 so I dont need to apply to petition her as a resident as I know that takes time, but we are legally married and I'd like her to accompany me to meet the family.

That sounds way too easy. I doubt there is any way to bring her to the US in such a short time frame. Unless she is a filthy rich entertainer I doubt it's going to happen. Sorry about that.

Well how is a US Citizen supposed to bring their wife in for a visit if we don't plan on residing there? She doesnt need a residency card

I'm not saying you can't, just saying in the time frame you are trying to get it done that it is very unlikely to happen. The K-3 Visa is a non-immigrant visa for a foreign spouse.....but I'm sure it takes more than a month to get. I'm sure the certified mail will take longer than a month to go back and forth, the paperwork will go in a, likely, very large stack waiting for approval. I'd guess 3 months would be the quickest you could get it done. You can contact the embassy to try to figure out how to proceed.

My friend successfully went through the arduous process of applying for a U.S. tourist visa for his wife. Check out the list of requirements on the internet. There are paperwork and documentation required plus a scheduled visit to the U.S. Embassy for an interview (wife only). Takes some time. His went rather smoothly. He believes that was because his wife already has an ITIN, a U.S. individual tax ID number.

I dont understand why the US just doesnt allow temp stay with passport like everywhere else..its not like most people can easily obtain passports here anyways.. Especially if you have legal certificate of marriage..arggh

Lol allow everyone from any third world country free entry to the US? They would come and never leave. I'd rather be poor in the US than middle class in the Philippines. If the US ever allowed that it would only be a couple years before the country would turn into a third world sh*t hole.

And legal marriage certificates can be easily forged/contracted out for a small fee in third world countries.
