Seems to make sense to me. Replace those old decrepit poles with newer and stronger ones. I assume most of the brownouts after typhoons come when branches/trees fall on power lines. In Valencia they like to shut off the water when it rains really hard. I think it has to do with the source of the water supply. If it overflows more damage will be done by leaving it on (maybe from excess water pressure).

Just thought the ngcp would have had more pressing things to worry about this weekend, they have cancelled before if the weather has been bad.

As usual with this wider than normal shutdown, my wife telephones me to ask I say something to you all about this. It is Not NORECO II that will turn off the power, It is the NGCP They (Noreco) just use the Grid down time to do what they need/ can do while it is off. We should always remember that there is a pulse power all the time so that Noreco Engineers can test what they have done. The main Power can come back at any time so, if anyone is going to work on any Electrics make sure that your mains are off just in case. Where these people will turn off at any time, they will without warning turn back on. She also said to remind people if you are not using anti-surge or AVR's to unplug your appliances and only plug in after 10/15 mins after power up. Power surges can cost us all a lot of problems and in the long run Money.

Just a heads up here, my wife really does care and tells me each and every time the NGCP do their things. Noreco can do their work by Shutting down Sub sations. So on Sunday they will/should mount a larger work force to make use of the big Shutdown we should see many? workers about poles and things But...............

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No TV on Pearl Harbor Day's 73 rd anniversary !!! That's nuts. I have been waiting a long time to watch all the Pearl Harbor Day and related movies and documentaries. I call this "no respect". Shame on NGCP ! It sounds as though the Philippines has for gotten what happen to their own country in those war years. Very sad indeed. Remember Pearl Harbor ! There are a lot of lessons still to be learned from that day and time period. In my opinion stay alert and trust no one.
    That's reality.
Hopefully the shows will be broadcast late from the U.S. due to the time difference and those of us interested won't miss too much.
Personally I had family in WWll. We were taught to "never forget". That doesn't mean do not forgive, but do not forget the lessons learned. Be ever vigilant.

I highly doubt it was planned to cut Pearl Harbor TV specials. Reaching a bit there. And do you really need tv shows to remember and honor those that died during the attack and the war? I bet those that died would care less if you sat your butt on the couch and watched some TV shows. My grandfather would have much preferred spending time with the family outdoors (or just sitting down and having a meal with the family).....electricity not needed.

@Charlie T. Which part of my comment did you disagree with? Do you really think they scheduled that brownout to stop the showing of some Pearl Harbor TV specials or to screw with American expats? That's nonsense....we all know they don't think further than their next paycheck/meal.

Do you think that our family members who fought in that war would want us sitting our asses on the couch and eyes glued to a TV? (I bet most fought there for something bigger than being honored on some BS History Channel TV show that only shows half truths and propaganda.) I guess they might be happy that your biggest worry today is that you are bummed about missing out of TV for (possibly) half a day. What a harsh world we live in!

And where did I say they planned this brownout just to screw with American Expats ? Point that out to me.

I guess unless one lived through WWll they just cannot understand the impact. Gas rationing, butter rationing, squashing tin cans, working in Victory garden. Uncle that was shot down and a prisoner of war, discharged for the Marines due to jungle disease and injuries, then wiggled his way into the Army so he could finish the war ! My family has not forgotten and will NOT FORGET !

This part seemed a bit like you were saying they did it out of a lack of respect for the war, especially the part where you say, "I call this 'no respect'". As I said, I doubt it was done out of a lack of respect for those who died/served in the war....I'm sure they still remember the Filipino lives that were lost during that war as well.

I never said anyone should forget about it or that those who lived through it should not remember how hard times were then. But I don't see how watching TV shows/movies shows respect to anyone though......but even if it did, I'm sure the deceased would understand that infrastructure was being improved and that the TV was not an option during the brownout. Maybe you could say a prayer for them and tell them thanks for there service instead (if praying is your thing). I'd say that if I had served in the war I would be pretty disappointed if people spent the day on their asses watching Ben Afflac in a 3 hour sh*t flick and poorly researched documentaries from the History channel.....or god forbid some nonsense from Fox News.

Pretty sure almost all of them were fighting for their families.....so wouldn't it make more sense to spend the day with your family? (Something that many of them never got to do before the war was over.) Or hey, just plop your @ss on the couch and do what you like.....as they like to say in the Philippines "up to you".
