Over-rated and over-priced. I would only go back if someone else was footing the bill.....and even then I would think twice about it.
Any heavily tourist oriented place in the world is full of "shearers" - eg., they fleece you................lol...:D
I I footed the bill once a while back for Boracay, not close to return on investment, regardless (note: prior life) For the cost from here for 1 week at Boracay, I could go to Mike's Dauin Beach Resort for a month and have a better time.
I was there twice over 20 years ago. The beach which has not changed is still amazing. The accommodations are expensive for the Philippines but compared to other top class destinations not so bad, also cheaper places can be found behind the beachfront resorts. The Food choices are many and varied from fancy expensive to cheaper good value. http://www.justonewayticket.com/2013/09/19/boracay-philippines-on-a-budget-island-paradise-23-a-day/ http://www.lonelyplanet.com/philippines/the-visayas/boracay Not to be just negative and doomgloom for F.S.
We spent 5 days there a few years ago and I did not think it was overly expensive. Nice places to eat on the beach with a decent price for seafood; the hotel we stayed at was a good 5 minute walk from the beach but we spent little time there. I probably would not go again just because there is nothing else to do but the beaches and boats. We were both bored after a couple days and even a failed fishing expedition in a tremendous lightning storm did not make it the best venture. Bohol was far better in my opinion and a place we want to go back again; so much more to see and do. We have not been to Palawan yet, but that is another place that I've heard is nice and is on the list of places to visit for us. Shawn
o_ONever been but from all the Pro's and Con's on this, I feel like I have and decided I didn't like it! :D
I would say check it out if you have never been, I just would not do more than a few days there. As I said, Bohol was one of the best places we have visited as it had the beaches as well as things to do in the area. There are still tons of places to visit on this island that we have not done yet. Shawn
A good Friend of mine Who lives there in Duma goes to Boracay at least once or twice a Year. He stays at Moreno's Cottages at station 3. Moreno's cottages { if I'm not mistaken } is located next door to Dave's Straw Hat Inn. As far as I know He pays around P1500 or less and it's only about a minute or two walk to the beach from Your room. He buys most of His food from the open market/ seafood market there and either has one of the stalls cook it for Him in the marketplace or has one of the cooks back at the hotel cook it for Him. He even tells Me that some of the deals on the seafood in the market there are better than what You get in Dumaguete. So although it may be a bit of a walk to the hustle and bustle of station 1 & 2 it's a lot quieter, cheaper and from what I understand the beach is just as nice. I Myself have always wanted to take a trip there, and will either stay at Dave's Strawhat or Morenos. My Friend also told Me that there is a little sari sari store located right next to Dave's or Moreno's that sells ice cold san miguels for p25........cheers
