As we go through life, we see, hear and do many strange things. Some Stick in our minds, others well, they just don't seem important but every now and then, Questions come up that we may not have the answer to. So here today, I will if I may, ask 3 Questions that I am sure will spark some thought prangs in a few minds. 1. Why is the Throttle always on the right side of a motor vehicle and the Clutch on the left ? ( No matter which side the steering is on a car. 2. Why is the Motor bike drive chain always on the left? ( Drive Shaft I am not too sure about.) 3. Why is the chain on a bicycle always on the right. Just a couple of those silly little Questions that some have always wanted to ask but have waited till this silly old bugger or any other did :D AH! I just thought of another, IS the Rotation of an Internal Combustion Engine always Clockwise?
Unless you are going to argue that it's a belt, not a chain, on Harley Davidson sportster it's on the right...
I am not arguing about anything, I asked a Question. OK, so Harley had a one off that was an exception, I learned something today
I would think this one is because most people are right handed and have better control of their right hand and foot when it comes to fine movement (as is needed with throttle and braking). When I try braking with my left foot I put everything through the windshield. My left foot is only good for jamming a clutch to the floor. I'm sure all that can be overcame by training yourself though. I bet it just came about because that's how the first vehicles were made and they never changed.
possible answers, 1. Because of more right handed people, feet follow as well, brain control. 2. When kick starting using right foot to avoid hitting the chain 3. Again right handed worker was assembling it and turning wheel to the right. 4. Science, forces go to the right for some reason. This is all speculation and guesses, does get the mind thinking and that is always a good thing. Happy day to all.
