It will always be the NFL, watched it since the day I was born (though I did not pick a team until I was 5). I also love boxing, even though the exciting fights have seemed to have gone away. Basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer barely higher than tennis on the boring level for me. Another poster mentioned NRL, did not know much about that league before but will start watching this year if I can figure out how to stream their games (I have a subscription to NFL game pass so it makes it convenient). I will follow the North Queensland Cowboys (even though they have a car manufacturer as part of their name) this season. Shawn
I am aware. There is also different baseball, basketball, football and american football leagues that have slightly different rules (codes) as well. I was just naming the sports as a whole to keep the options for the question to a minimum.
What about a informal weekly pool (billiard) tournament for the members interested just for fun. Honeycomb sport bar is unusually almost empty and very safe place to play with two tables. There is also Mias but it only has one table, and La Fiesta with one table (not a particularly good table but the price is right - free). Is there anyone interested? It is a good way to put faces to names here (someone start another thread if there is an interest) Wow sports bar is a good place to watch sports, and Taco Tayo has a sport bar atmosphere with lot of sports on the TV for those interested in watching sports. There is also some American versions of games like "kick the can" (a can is buried in the ground and feet are use to uncover it). Very Physical almost like Rugby as opposing teams try to kick the can down toward their goal . There of coarse is also "hide the sausage" but I do not think there is any TV coverage here in the Philippines. That is also very physical, with neither opponent every fully winning the game with the battle going on for decades between opponents, with lots of arguments about rules, new rules, changing rules and violations some times of unauthorized and untimely roaster changes.. No one has mentinoed an interest in Cock Fight here in the forum. Is that because they use roosters?
Hmm and No one has mentioned the Commonwealth game of Cricket. What a wonderful way to Spend an Afternoon outside a nice pub and watch the game.
I have daily fights with my boy. He uses a 7 inch super hero plastic Spider Man and allows me to use a similar plastic bad guy to fight him. So he was undefeated in 2014, after about 50 fights. I am hoping for a more successful 2015.
It is kind of interesting to me that soccer, baseball and basketball seem to be pretty much universal but from there it goes off to other sports by country. As an example, the NFL is the most popular sport in the US and there is a huge following in other countries but internationally I don't see it ever getting as popular as soccer. As a kid I tried watching baseball and basketball but could not get into it. Back in the day I was with a Korean chick and watched the World Cup games with her and if it was not for beer I would not have gotten through it. Go Cowboys and beat the Lions!! Shawn
