Thanks Jack and Hawk. These are the type of answers I was hoping for. Tried Goodyear already, Out Of Stock til next week. The tire place jack is talking about, I think went out of business or moved. I'll check again.

Yokohoma, Goodyear Wranglers, Pirelli are all good tires. BF Goodrich are good tires and the peanut tread of the radial T/A is the best all rounder for performance that they have found for a couple decades. l have not bought tires here yet but in the USA there is a massive divide in price between the usual largest of car tires (235-75-15) and any truck tires. Larger than 15 inch rim sizes also seems to contribute to cost, more than would seem warranted.

I had similar experience with Goodyear Wranglers in the US on a ford Ranger, 52k miles and looked like they would do another 10k before they were worn out. They don't last that long on heavier vehicles but still good.

For a Chinese brand, many people l have known used Maxxon brand, usually on trucks and they seemed to be pleased with their toughness but they weren't as long wearing as other brands.

The OP didn't say whether he needed true off road tires of a max traction variety, it's hard to make a recommendation for an SUV when you don't know how much emphasis is on sport.

We buy a grand called GT from a company in Cebu. You go up Osmena Blvd, pass Cebu Doctors and turn left into the road at Bo's coffee. However, I believe it's a one way street, so you have to take a left before or after and then turn into it in the other direction.
It's a company owned by a Persian guy. Great person to deal with. The tires are imported from Indonesia of good quality and competitive prices.
Most rubber in the world is produced in Indonesia (together with Malaysia and Thailand), so why wouldn't they make the best tired ;-)

OK guys I finally found tires that I think will work for me. Our car is used mainly for trips from home to town, with occasional trips to Valencia. Long distance maybe 1 per year. So I bought China tires for alomost half what brand names go for and they're still made in China. This was a no brainer for me since our computer says our average speed is only 15 kph.

Thanks to everyone for their replies and advice.
