He just smokes and scares little kids for shits and giggles (and possibly has a magical rock he hides somewhere). I'm not so sure what is scary about that, sounds kinda fun IMO. I've never been able to get a solid answer out of any Filipino on why the Kapre is so scary.
Hehe the staff at bambulo didn't like this one as they always thought the kapre who lived in the bamboo was watching them when they went to clock off There is also the sigbin which most of the women don't like either, sometimes the women put garlic and some sort of branches near the bedroom window to stop the sigbin coming and sucking out the baby when forst pregnant! Many of the girls here from Luzon will never visit siquijor either due the the presence of the wak wak

The fear is very real to people who believe it. An example is in Oz, where the Native Australians, ( Aborigines ) believe that if the local witch doctor ( medicine man ) "points the bone at them", they will die. Sure enough if the bone is pointed, that person goes off and dies.
