We may have had this topic come up before on the forum. If so, let's update. When I got out of the military in southern California, I discovered a new fast food chain called, "In and Out Burger". Most tee shirts blanked out the B and r in burger and that is what they became and if I went back to the San Diego area, double meat, double cheese, fries, lemonade., I would head for the nearest one. However, for me, topping even that was a small jewish diner in the Las Feliz district that had a special dripping hot pastrami on rye (no plagiarizing Wyre) with a half dill pickle. d*mn, those were the days my friend. Leaving out the steak dinners which most of us miss.
I know the In-n-out burger well and miss it also. The biggest problem here is when you see one of your favorite foods on the menu here and order it.... wow.... nothing like you ever saw or tasted in your mother country... I mean how could they even call it the same thing... which is why I stop eating beef here altogether. Never tasted like the beef I remember... I do remember eating card board that tasted like the beef they have here,,,, but it had more flavor that the beef here. I guess that is my "beef" with ordering meals here. . Does anyone else miss In-N-Out?
Got to be fish and chips sat on the beach in the uk with loads of salt n vinegar. Or a good old Sunday roast with gravy
For me it is Mexican food, I was stationed at Vandenberg AFB back in the day and there was a stand in Lompoc that had the greatest fish tacos you could imagine; never have found anything that came close in all the years since then. I think of myself as a pretty decent cook but have never been able to replicate them. I PCS'ed from there in '96 so that is how long they have been on my mind... Shawn
Hmm I make great burgers at home fried or Bar B Qed..............Make great tacos enchiladas (but they are expensive)..Make a decent chili also.... Being Italian I miss my Genoa Salami and Mortedella...and of course The Bar B Qed Porterhouse steaks.... I have made some good Pastrami's also (when i can find it)....But the bread makes all the difference in the world..
You can now add chili to the list of things I miss, I've made some good bean soups with the ingredients I can get here but have not had a good bowl of chili in a very long time...thanks for reminding me. Shawn
Onions... Garlic...Molinara large can of CRUSHED Tomatoes...1/2 k of hamburger and some small cubes of Pork..Mix with McCormicks Chili Con Carne seasoning 1 package there u have it add beans if you like
I have come to find that the food that I "thought" I missed wasn't nearly as good as memory served. Seems our memories are sometimes best left in the past. "Some memories are realities, and are better than anything that can ever happen to one again." - Willa Cather
Deli sandwiches, meats, rye bread with caraway seeds, pumpkin pie, cool whip, hanover sourdough pretzels, and my favorite mexican restaurant. [DOUBLEPOST=1422799148,1422799053][/DOUBLEPOST] Wendy's copycat recipe is good also and easily done in the crockpot.
