:o o: Very Little surprises me any more but there are days and Today was one of them that my Grumps can come on very Quickly :grumpy:
Mainly because it is those 2 ladies of mine that will complain that the Project for this week is not Completed. I am only mean and Strict when it concerns them apparently and when things like this happens it will be my fault of course. But they will back him up and then say why did you not scold him, then when I do, I am too Strict. :meh: Just can't win sometimes, So off for a beer soon and try and get over it, For me now, Tomorrow is another day, they can sort the mess out. :pompus:

I found out a long time ago that is unwise to pay a Filipino in advance. When you are paying in advance you assume you have the terms and conditions define, but they do not... they immediately try to change the terms, conditions, quality and quantity of the item(s)to be exchanged and seldom in your favor. Seldom in Filipino to filipino transactions is anything delivered early, particularly in the private segments or family segments of society.

That said, there is no saving plans so most of the time any unexpected need is an emergency. Foreigners usually respond in kindness to the family tragedies only to find those involved drunk the next day with the money extended. As Dustin said, take them to buy the needed medicine, meet them at the hospital or whatever it takes to insure that you will feel confident that you are helping them. There is no worst feeling than the feeling of thinking you are doing a good deed helping someone with a medical emergency and then realizing the medical emergency was an addiction to something illegal, drugs, and gambling. Be nice to them but do not teach them that we are always easy "marks".

The wife would regularly give an advance on the worker's salaries, documented and at the end of the week it would be subtracted. Never seemed to be a problem though we did have some of their wives stopping by on Friday to confirm and/or collect their husband's salaries...

Cherry would never advance more than a day or two pay that they would earn during their week and if they did not show those daily rates would have been taken out as well.

Not as many problems as you would expect.

The next time he asks for cash advance I would tell him " NO, every time you have an advance you do not show for work the next day." No more, finish the work and I will pay you, finish a day or week early and I will give you a bonus. You have been much to easy since he repeats the lack of showing up. If he needs money advise him there are many places he can get a loan, doubt he will ask again. You could also hire another worker unless you like his work.Good luck and hope the job is finished sooner as opposed to later.

There lies the problem for both of us (Azon and I) his work is exceptionable. he can make concrete Pillars look like Wood or marble, He has been told that his Timekeeping has to get sorted and the days off will result in a penalty other that stopped pay, Things have got better this week so maybe he has had a talk to himself. :wideyed:

I believe we train people how we expect to be treated. If you have a spoiled child (or pet) just asked: Who spoiled them? It usually is not the neighbor.

Talking about a bar and of course it's a bit off topic. But I still and do always remember a sign in a bar in my home country that goes:
we only allow credit to our valued customers when they are accompanied by both parents ageing 80 yrs or more.

It has been my experience, that after working for you for some time, workers become blase. You try to understand their situation and give them an advance or a loan. With family members an advance or loan is understood by them to be a gift. I am not being nasty, but I use an example : if you feed a dog too much, he will only comeback to you when he is hungry. So you must not spoil him, otherwise he will only return when his money runs out. I think we have all experienced this at some time or another.

I don't mind giving an advance to people that work for me as I seem to have found some fairly reliable people and its not a loan. They are actually going to work it off. But if they did not turn up on time? Its over. Sad thing is you try to help here sometimes and just get abused as an easy mark.

If someone asks for a loan I tell them I only give loans to foreigners.
