An all-student production that ended with its own version of film awards was held at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium of Silliman University in Dumaguete City recently, a press release from SU said.

The 1st Silliman Film Open screened 19 short films produced, directed and edited by Silliman students, with the cast also students of the school. Festival director Ian Casocot, a faculty of the SU English and Literature Department, said the Film Open was an offshoot of a class project, and spanned off from the 61 Short Film Festival that showcased outputs of the Communication 61 (Film Appreciation) class of the College of Mass Communication, the press release also said.

It is unfortunate that this type of event news is published after the event.... I mean in the local media, not here at DiF. That happens all the time in the Local Newpapers. I would have liked to seen the short films. Is there any way that someone know how to get this information before the event happens?

Asian College use to have many course dinner at the college so the students would learn how to cook and serve customers. It was set up like a hotel special event. It was a very good meal when I attended. I think the cost was about 400 P. As I finished up my meal, and they were taking the plate, I was asked if I was still hungry, when I said yes, they brought me another entree... so the price was not bad.

I plan on using my GI Bill when I get back to Dumaguete. If that happens I will certainly be posting more information on college/university events.

Be careful with that whole post 911 GI Bill thing. I started taking classes because I wanted the housing allowance. I found that going to school was a lot of work but I just was not willing to quit and let the government keep the money I had earned. I also figured out somewhere along the way that I was getting an education. When I finish this semester I will have three classes left to get my bachelors degree in business administration.

When I finish my bachelors I am going to start utilizing the educational benefit my company offers and work on my MBA. Good luck to you when you do start taking classes.

Were you taking the classes in the US or overseas? This is the primary reason that I am going, the education I plan to get in the Philippines......:meh:

Overseas BAH was around $1,300 last time I checked. I do know a couple guys using the post 911 GI-Bill and they had no problem using it or getting the BAH or getting them to pay for the school.

The registration process for anything with the VA is long and time consuming. Don't expect anything quick, so start your registration process early. I would recommend starting 7 - 8 weeks early, but I am in the US. Overseas I would add more time. For me it has been a fairly painless process. Some classes however have required a lot more work than what I feel the housing allowance has compensated for.

I wouldn't expect anything the VA does to take less than 2 months. I'm not signing up for any "odd" classes so I don't see approval being a problem.

The way the VA works here you can only take classes that are in the declared curriculum. You can change field of study anytime, and I believe as many times as you wish. When I say that some classes required more effort I was referring to the amount of work it took to learn calculus and statistics among other things. Keep in mind though that when I started taking classes under the GI Bill that I had been out of school for over 25 years. The highest math class I had previously completed was geometry, and I remembered absolutely none of it.

The SU web site posts schedules of events. You can also subscribe to the Facebook page.
