TAGBILARAN CITY. – The University of Bohol (UB) issued a statement yesterday owning the victim of the most recent rape-slay in the city as one of its students. At the opening part of the statement, it describe the sentiment of the UB community to have strongly condemned the brutal killing of Gamba who is a first year student in the College of Hospitality Management, Tourism, Nutrition and Dietetics of the university. It described the victim as a diligent and law-abiding student who lives by the trinity of virtues of scholarship, character and service for which the university stands for. It pointed out that a review of the records in the university’s Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system showed that Gamba had been reporting to her classes on time since she started her studies last June, 2014. Records also showed that she entered the university main campus at 4:26 in the afternoon of March 20 to take her final examinations. According to my niece at Norsu, a lot more than we are being informed about. Date rape is on the Up and as we know one thing leads to another Things get covered up and this was one of the reasons that a senior member of that Uni was held to account for. JP
The article was very poorly written in my opinion, as there was few facts. The writer did not have the courtesy of fully name the victim, only giving a single name. If is was an issue of confidentiality then even a single name should not have been given. I looked for more information on the net and was able to find nothing of significance. It is a significant event that will affect many young students emotional lives, and lets hope not their physical lives also. The problem of rape and murder on campuses should be addressed with hopefully solutions before we read about another "most recent" case event in the news.
It's a Filipino news website....would expect anything more? This might be out of respect for the victim. Being raped and/or murdered is not something I would want plastered all over the internet. I agree that if it was not disclosed for privacy concerns they shouldn't have listed any names. I believe we had a thread recently about how to avoid this rape/murder scenario. Bringing friends/family along on a date is one possible solution for avoiding it. Not getting sh*t-faced drunk at the local disco with people you don't fully know is another.
