I had a negative shopping experience today, a fellow in a well know retail store (I will not name names) was just totally disrespecting me and trying to do what I consider a irresponsible job. When I mentioned it to the manager, she approached him, and he just walked away from her, in my opinion disrespecting her also. It was funny. So I thought that a "DIF Business Winner List" would be helpful to the members so they know where they may just get a good old down home (that is for the Australians here) type of shopping experience. I would like this thread to focus on the pleasant experiences of shopping in Dumaguete, not the negative because I am sure that Dustin's hard drive has limited space , and acknowledging some of the retail and service providers who believe in the business ideals that I have experienced in my mother country like: 1). The customer comes first, or at least before the employee cell phones. 2). The business prides itself in delivering a quality product that they stand behind in their sales. 3). The business employees address customers with real respect and courtesy. 4). The employee can think and are trained to think, not just regurgitate some rule. 5). There is a fair exchange policy for poor merchandise. 6) There are warranties or guarantees that last for more than a week. I realize that we are in a different culture and that many people here do not believe in any of these business concepts but even if they manage to adhere to just two of these characteristic I think they deserve some recognition here. Please post the name of company and the two reasons (you can come up with additional reasons besides on the list ) that the business deserves to come up on the "DIF Business Winner List". I will give an example: What I call the French Restuarant at the 7 Km marker on the south highway in the Bacong area. I nominate them for putting the customer first, and delivering a quality product of good value. The owner is present at all times, and takes pride in his food product The last time I was there, after we ate, he brought over a bottle of Brandy and poured too small glass which I considered his way of saying he appreciated our business. He made my shopping experience very pleasant even if I could not drive home. lol Now I will acknowledge that someone else may have a less pleasant eating experience there, but let get as many positive business experiences listed here as possible, so we know where to shop and dine, and so the good ones get enough acknowledgment that they may survive in business here.
Lee Plaza grocery has many helpful employees who actually know where products are and will ask someone else to help if they do not know where the product you want is. Cashiers and packers are always smiling too.
Of Course here again we Forget, "We ain't in Kansas no more" I would be the First to Agree that I can get so angry at many, many daily things that I can find wrong with shopping in general, but in the main, I will say that they try their hardest. No! it is not the answer to many but it is what it is. Cangs to me has the right Attitude, the Supervisors there will if called, give what I call the right answer, " I don't know sir but I will go and find out" Now to me that is service, It may not bring the answer I was Hoping for but they tried. Lee Plaza and Hypermart are pretty Close behind in this, I have heard many times the Demands of a lot of Foreigners to sales Staff and Supervisors. it is no wonder sometimes that the help they want/need is not there. To those I will say, Speak to People as you would like to be Spoken to. Courtesy and Civility goes Both ways. I know that should the Shoe be on the Other foot and this sort of thing happened in our own Countries, it would be. " Well if you don't like it go Home" NO! you say, Are you sure about that ? Sometimes we have to think a little more positive. Over the Last 10 years I have seen many Changes and has Brought better results, It is getting there. Rome wasn't Built in a day either. JP
Is there such a thing as a pleasant shopping experience? I will try to avoid it at all costs, inc the mall as I really cannot see why so many people go to this place! And as for the city its a deff no no. The women love to shop so all well and good.
I am the same way. I average about 1 visit a month to Robinsons......and I feel that is 1 visit a month too much. When I go shopping I know exactly what I need, get it, then get out.
We shop at hypermart and find them helpfull the supervisors and staff are always helpfull. I hate going to city but lately have been to the wet market once a week for veg n eggs to save a bit. The powers to be need a good kick up the @ss and made clean the place up and get some of there many rules obeyed.
