OK here is an interesting question for everyone.. How much does your WIFE/GF/WHATEV spend a week on "Food" ? Does anyone track this or can give a ballpark estimate and what food.. (NOTE how I didnt include foreigners in the question as I'm quite sure most of us don't eat like the average filipino does )

    Thanks!

My gf spends about 4-6k a month on food. This includes food for feeding at least one family member that stay there with her while I am gone.

 Not the sort of thing I usually get involved with but just at this time it is sort of a sore issue in this house.
Since our Daughter is now back home full time with us it has jumped considerably as one would expect But more than I would have imagined. Last month was just under 10.000 and that did not Included any JB's. having had some family Discussions and bearing in mind your own thoughts on foreign Food, I find she (They ) are producing some days, 4 different meals, belt tightening was called for as we need some major things and so we had to do some thinking.
Sorry I am Prattling here, Horizon our ball park figure is now in the Region of 2500 per week give or take, Plus the usual stuff, market is additional 4 to 500
Not sure if this is a norm for a family of 3 + a live in. not my Domain as a rule But........................:cautious:

As I said I don't normally worry as long as I am fed, it only came to light because of the need for an expensive Item, that I can sit and give an answer.

    JP :bag: :whistling:

It really helps to not be a picky eater in the Philippines. My favorite meals consist of some of the cheapest ingredients you can find in the Philippines. If you want to avoid paying a higher price you should shop in the public market and not the supermarkets. I really can't taste any difference.

I don't track because most of the cost is for me. The wife buys daily fish from the Bacong fish market for her and whatever family is here, and mixes milled corn and rice, and vegetables and fruits from our garden.. My problem is I favor Lapu Lapu (Grouper) which is more expensive and you have to buy in Dumaguete. I also prefer boneless skinless chicken breast from the market while they eat one of the many native chickens in our garden. So my monthly social security check goes mostly for me. Not a problem.

We eat very well because my wife is a gourmet cook, and not including eating out at restos etc., she gets by on 2000 per week max, very nicely, that budget includes various condiments that need replenishing from time to time, and also includes drinking water in bulk.

I hope you do not mind me answering this question..
in a week.. I spend 2,000 pesos for meat like chicken and pork..
another 2,000 pesos for vegetable and fruits
and another 2,000 pesos for groceries ... mostly ingredients for cooking like stock cubes tomato sauce including pasta, canned goods and etc.
sometimes these last us for more than a week.. depending if we have visitors or workers.. currently we have 3 carpenters.. I cook them lunch.. twice a week we have a gardener
and there is an expense called others...:biggrin: about 2,000 pesos.. i make some desserts (agar-agar, cream de fruita, leche flan) and workers merienda (food between meals) this last about a month..
we are 5 people in the family, including our son and yaya (helper)
I always try to track our expenses by having a record book of all our daily expenses. This is the only way to be aware of expenses. You'll be surprise of the total expense in a week including every single thing.. I keep all the receipts too. I am fully aware that trust is being earned and I never wanted to have an issue about money. Budgeting is not very easy.. if you doubt your wife/gf/partner.. Try to do it..:smile::smile:

I guess for 5 people thats pretty good + visitors+workers.. Although if someone ever told me there was an expense called "Others" wether it be on a receipt, an oral report from my gf, or whatever, I am going to be pretty d*mn skeptical... ..

And to answer your question about budgeting, I am the only one that does it, because when I wasnt, I was bleeding money like crazy. Or maybe like my friendly neighbor suggested, "Maybe your wallet has a hole in it" ... Well newsflash.. I checked it and that wasnt the case. I used trackeverycoin - do a google search if interested (didnt want to post the link if its not allowed feel free to delete this sentence) its free, easy, quick and it works for me. I track everything from the 10piso per person per ride trikes to fuel for the moto and you will be amazed and how quick it adds up and the stuff you don't calculate in.
