In most cases it is this statement, that makes the Public Fickle. My Granny used to say a lot about people and their fancies, one phrase she used often was :
"There is nowt as strange as Folk and we are all Folk"

sorry i beg to differ, mayweather had manny in several head locks constantly hugging him, one punch below the belt, i think the judges were asleep or in the wrong stadium, points should have been deducted, it was a dirty fight, actually it was more a wrestling match maybe mayweather should join WWC it was not boxing.

OK "loved & revered around the world" in its literal sense would be an ambitious statement, I see that now (duly retracted). I should have been more specific in as far as the 'sporting/boxing/armchair fan fraternity' in general. In other words - people genuinely like him because he doesn't come across as an ashole (Negros Chronicle spelling - not mine)! Would that be fair?

Ali? Well... History is what it is. He may have been a 'motor mouth' adept in the art of self-publification - but from my [limited] knowledge of his life, he took a stand for what he believed in - and like you said - that was [at times] irrespective of the money/cost to his career. Floyd "Money" Mayweather - just about sums him up. Great fighter, very successful and technically brilliant - but I can't see anyone giving him much sympathy if he's ever struck down with a debilitating illness!

The low punch in the 3rd round that Mayweather was warned on was not low, although Pacquiao complained. The ref was in no position to see it. This is the only video I could find, you can freeze it any time. The punch starts at a low angle but he raises it so at impact it is at the belt or higher. 100% legal.

The video looks like he punched him in the stomach then gave him a hand job.
