I had a doberman when I lived in Olongapo, I used to have neighbors throw balls of hamburger over the fence with peppers (not sure of the name, but they were hot) stuffed in the middle. This seemed like a fairly effective way to keep the dog from being poisoned. I don't know if anyone ever tried to poison Butch, but that did happen to a friends dog when I lived there.

Nope, spent 10 days afterwards staying up all night just in case. Now I respond every time the dogs bark, day or night. Last week I had to do a visa extension in Dumaguete so we decided to get a hotel and make it an overnight thing and someone from the wife's family was at the house when we were gone.

I know folks have issues with their partner's families, and I cannot say that I like all of Cherry's relatives or it is always smooth sailing, but if we need something they are always there.

And as Jacob mentioned it could have been an accident, a poisoned rat came wondering on and Pepper killed it. The thing is he was a good ratter but did not eat them and I did not find a dead rat; if there was one around another dog would have probably found it interesting and I would have seen it. Fortunately no other dog has gotten sick and are doing what dogs and puppies do.
