I am still waiting, now 4 years, for the plate for my wife's Honda Beat so I guess in another 3-4 years I will get the new plate I paid for, for the car.

    DavyL200,
I doubt they will text you! You will be lucky enough IF they can even find your new plate in the batch they receive....or even if they can find where somebody hid the batch to get it out of the pathway to their CR.

The House committee on Metro Manila development has joined mounting calls for the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to stop the issuance of new car plates as questions linger about their purpose and functionality.

Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo said his panel will recommend that the LTO cease from issuing new car plates because they have no value to motorists.

He said that during his panel's recent investigation, lawmakers discovered that the new plates' price rose to P450 because they were imported from the Netherlands.

Castelo believes the importation of the new plates was useless because they can be made locally.

"There are several companies that could produce that kind of plate number. Wala talagang value ang new car plates," he told reporters in a press conference on Tuesday.

Castelo noted that millions of cars, trucks and motorcycles still have functional car plates so there is no reason why they should be replaced with new ones.

The new plates, supplied by the joint venture Power Plates Development Concepts Inc. and Dutch firm J. Knierem BV-Goes and feature a black and white design, also supposedly have tamper-resistant locks and reflectorized sheets.

Some motorists, however, claim the plates are of poor quality and are easily bendable.

“The people are shelling out P450 pesos and if there is 16 million vehicles, just imagine the amount. We will be recommending to stop it or have the contract rebidded,” Castelo said.
