THE Department of Tourism will fall short of the expected 10 million foreign tourist arrivals this year by five million, although the country gained more revenues from a lesser number of foreign tourist arrivals, according to Department of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez. The Tourism secretary made the disclosure when his agency sought congressional approval of the agency’s proposed P3.6 billion budget for 2016. Jimenez said there were 4.8 million foreign tourists who visited the country from January to June 2015, while domestic tourist arrivals reached 54 million. And while the agency expects an upward trend, Jimenez conceded that the peak figure for foreign tourist arrivals could only reach five million. “I take personal responsibility for my optimism [of putting the target at 10 million], but the foreign tourist arrivals is not the sole determinant of success. We also have to look at the products of these arrivals: the revenue and the employment that we generate,” Jimenez said in response to the inquiry of Rep. Lito Atienza of Buhay Hayaang Yumabong party-list on why the Tourism agency missed its target so bad. http://www.manilatimes.net/breaking...eign-tourist-arrivals-target-by-five-million/ Reckon it's about time they took a good look at how other Asian country's do it!
Let's hope not. The way most other Asian countries handle tourist visas would not be beneficial to anyone who isn't willing to marry a local but wants to stay for an extended period of time. Also, other Asian countries have things people want to see (historical sites/clean beaches) and good infrastructure to get people to those destinations. The Philippines has no such thing.
To a degree maybe Davy, as long as they don't do it like in Bangkok & blow them up Nor likely to in our lifetime JP
I sat down the other day and figured out the cost of me living here and living in Canada as a pensioner. There is no difference! Granted the Canadian dollar is in a slump but all things considered equal there are no savings for me to live here. Of course there are other things you cannot measure in dollar and cents. I hate the cold winters in Canada and high maintenance women. And, the beer is cheaper here! I should also mention that doctors for the most part in Canada seem to be more highly skilled. I think what attracts foreigners here is the culture. Don't laugh. And, the possibility that they may find love. But the climbing peso against most currencies is not helping right now. Just my two cents.
