Curious here. If you Transferred say $10.000 from your Dollar account to a Peso account, would you get the same exchange rate or does it not work like that?

Whatever the posted rate at the location is, regardless of the amount that is it. Although banks normally offer a lower rare than outsiders, BDO will add .05 to the rate they give us. But that is still lower than say upstairs at Robinson's so better to withdraw dollars and go upstairs for pesos, if you are not nervous about carrying cash. I would certainly not haul $10,000 in cash anywhere here.

This is where I get screwed using Xoom. I get the $4.99 transaction fee plus a hit on the exchange rate. Right now if I were to send with Xoom I'd get 45.38 to the dollar. P1.42 difference. I don't know how they factor it in but they are taking a little more than a 3% cut of whatever I send plus the transaction fee. Someone suggested another online remittance site to me before. Was it worldremit.com?

I use XOOM and always have money sent to me in US dollars which is taken out of my bank account. Then I do the exchange here where I can get a better rate. And I never exchange at a bank, always at a reputable exchange. However, I do these transactions in Cebu. I don't know what is available in Dumaguete.

I thought they had an extra fee for sending USD. If I remember correctly it is am extra $2-$4 USD. It pretty much evens out.

Just checked. It's $3 more....around P140 more to send USD. After you drive to a place to exchange the currency it's almost exactly the same cost as sending pesos (you might actually lose some depending on the exchange rate you can find on town). Perhaps if you send larger amounts you would make out better. I don't like having large amounts of cash on me or laying around the house though. P15k is about the most I ever have on me at one time.
