DAVAO CITY, Philippines (UPDATED) – "I am not running." Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ended on Monday, September 7, what has been a long wait for supporters and political observers, announcing that he would not seek the presidency in the 2016 elections. He told a crowd of supporters, a number of them crying, that he arrived at the decision after consulting with his family. It is no secret that at least his daughter Sara – also a former mayor of Davao – was against him running seeking the highest post. Duterte's son, meanwhile, had said they would support whatever decision their father would take. Duterte: 'I am not running for president' I'm sure there will be a few people on here who will be sad on his decision and a few who will be happy. I know one who will be happy about it . Personally I would have liked to see him run whatever the consequences may have been. This country needs some discipline and he was the only one who could deliver this.lets just hope binay does not get in as we are all doomed.
Terrorizing street rat criminals in a single city and terrorizing the uber-rich and connected elites in Manila are two completely different things. He would have gotten himself shot if he had tried his criminal tactics on them and he knows it. Glad this POS isn't going to run. If he was serious about stopping crime he would be cleaning up the judicial system, not secretly killing people he feels deserves it.
I don't suppose the Report of him Pulling a Gun on a Restaurant customer did him any good, I don't see Smoking as a Capitol Offence worthy of that! JP
This not just isolated to Davao from what I understand. And I am not sure who is behind the current move that is on in Mati City to kill people that are on a "special list." From what I understand, you can be killed for actually smoking marijuana if someone reports you and you are put on this list. I am not sure how true this is. However, I have to say if the story is true about being threatened with a gun for smoking is true it does seem a little heavy handed.
