Guys please help me decide. Either Im buying a brand new pick up truck or my friend's FORD F150 6.8...YES 6.8L. !!! His selling it for Php 380k not sure about the year but I think its mid 2000's. Now my questions are:
    1. If F150's breaks down, is it really a PITA? You cant just take this to the shop, leave it and hopefully you come back already fixed, right?
    2. Or.....am I good with local pick up as F150 are impractical especially in our roads.

I tested it, I just love the power....

I bet most of you guys had F150s back in the States..just need some serious opinions from you guys. Many thanks.

At present Ford does not have a dealer in Dumaguete. My neighbor has a Ford Focus. He had the dealer in Cebu order a couple of lifting cylinders for the hatchback. The dealer in Cebu would not forward the parts to Dumaguete as they felt only they were qualified to install the parts. That's a F**n joke, an accountant could install them. Before any of you accounting guys jump on me; excuse me for being a techy.

I would go with a vehicle that can be easily repaired in Dumaguete. The crappy roads here really do a number on vehicles. It would be stressful to be without a vehicle for weeks or months for something minor that should be fixed in an hour. I have a CBR 1000RR and I am currently having problems getting parts....luckily I have a few other bikes to putt around on while I search for what I need.

I had a Ford Lynx that needed a lot of parts before I sold it. HVL auto parts would order any part that they didn't have in stock in 2 to 3 days. I also found a Ford Club on line that helped a lot on ordering small hard to get parts.

If it were me, I would take a used one as long as it is in good condition. Either of the trucks will get beat up on the roads or scratched, dented and pissed on by dogs and humans. Less stress for a far less amount spent. Hope this helps..

    Cheers, Ron

You could not give me a north american built truck here in this country. Parts are very hard to come by, more than 1 friend has had his "baby" sit for months waiting for what we could pick up in 10 minutes in any city or town back home. Stick with the brand name imports as they are plentiful, parts are available in most larger cities and their resale is reflected by the availability to access parts and service.

I've noticed that there's a big Ford sign up on what used to be "Tim's Garage" - just north of the airport on the west side of the national highway. It's fairly new - certainly wasn't there last year, and I have no idea how competent they are.

It is bad enough parking a small car in Dumaguete, so I would go for something that is smaller than an F150. Toyota,Nissan or Isuszu would be my choice, as there are dealerships here, so parts should be readily available. Mileage would be around <10 mpg. Go for a diesel 2/3 price of petrol and more mpg.
