lol Ah alright, get it now. Didn't even realize there were wrenches in that picture. Maybe microsoft is trying to hint at something there. (That's a stock image Microsoft put in the intro app.)

I was pleased that it didn't erase my HD partitions and overwrite Linux. Installation was pretty simple....no wrenches required.

I'm working for a 3rd party tech support service. We get a pretty good amount of complaints regarding windows 10.
    Cons
    • It doesn't support some apps.
    • There have been issues with drivers specially with wifi adapters
    • Getting into safe mode to repair the system is a pain now sometimes if the system doesn't boot you can't get into safe mode at all without a rescue disk

    Pros
    • Copy paste for the command prompt
    • Edge looks and feels better than IE (Microsoft stated that they wouldn't include IE in the system but its still there)
    • Cortana is surprisingly responsive unlike Microsofts past attempts at voice recog software.
    • Microsoft has adapted patching updates instead of big service pack downloads which makes fixing problems a lot easier (the update screwed up all our drivers, but after a few patches it started working perfectly.)

Haven't ran across any apps that don't work yet (I'm sure they are out there though).
Had a problem with wifi but resolved after I manually updated the drivers.
I really wish Microsoft would get with the program and allow repair disks to be made on hard drives. The majority of newer laptops do not even have a place to put a CD/DVD.

I like Edge and have been favoring it over Chrome. I have been having some hanging problems when making edits to text files online (starts to hang after you make several saves). Overall it is MUCH better than IE.
I can't bring myself to use Cortana. Feel like an idiot talking to my computer/tablet/any electronic. I like just prefer the old fashioned click and type method. (And her jokes are horrible.)
I have never like how Windows forces a restart to finish installing patches/updates and that it will go ahead and restart for you after a certain time period. (I have Linux also installed on this computer and when it resets it automatically boots into Linux....and I'm too lazy to change the boot order.)

Before Windows 10 I had 8.1 installed and I had all but given up on Windows and almost all my computer use was done on Linux. Since I installed Windows 10 I have rarely used Linux.

You can make rescue disks with thumb drives now. When you download windows 10 there's an option to put it on a thumb drive, you can use that as the rescue disk if your motherboard supports booting off usb

I am planning on downloading windows 10. I want to in stall it over Windows Vista. What is the cost involved and so foresee any problems. I have been having problems with my microphone and Skype and just get it resolved.

I updated to windows 10 when it was free. I have no idea if they are still running that promo or not. I didn't know Vista was still a thing, I upgraded from Windows 8 myself. When you upgrade Windows 10 saves a backup of the old OS so you can revert back if things don't go well. No idea if that actually works or how to go about reverting to your older version as I would have rather have deleted Windows all together and completely move over to Linux than go back to Windows 8.

The only problems I've had were some issues with the sound drivers. That was resolved by doing a few Google searches and downloading an ridiculously large driver for my computer model.

I've had a number of my older programs not work on windows 10. I used to use Adobe Photoshop 7 because it was easy to use for the few uses I had with it but that stopped working with Windows 10 and the same for my old office 2007 and a few other older programs and the compatibility mode is a joke. Felt like they were purposefully trying to stop programs older then 2010 from working at all almost.

FYI yes the promo for free Win 10 update is still valid. People who have a registered, legal copy of Vista, win 7, Win 8 or Win 8.1 can update for free until at least June of maybe even July 2016.

I've been the fast ring for Insider Previews for sometime and it's continuing to improve. I took a hard drive from a Sandy Bridge box and booted from it on a Haswell; after rebooting to load new drivers it validated OK. I updated 2 Haswell machines from Pentium to I7 Devils Canyon also with no validation problems. My only regret is the missing TV Tuner component as alternatives so far are lacking.

Oddly enough my windows 8.1 version was a pirated copy. I was so fed up with the official 8.1 originally installed on my PC that I deleted the legal copy from my computer and moved over to Linux. I only downloaded the pirated copy and reinstalled it again while I was working because Open Office was screwing up the overly complex excel document the government demand I submit every week.
Open Office didn't actually screw anything up, it just changed the colors of the different tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet and that drove one of the anal retentive turd burglar in the US crazy for some retarded reason.....which involved me having to be involved in teleconferences to the US to explain why his blue tab was now all of a sudden green....every single week. :shifty: I'd rather watch 100 hours of non-stop AFN commercials than listen to that /-\sshat go on about the color of the godd°mn excel tab colors for one more minute. :banghead: I did have a coworker in the US that was an office mate of the turd burglar that loved trolling the sh°t out of him that kept giving me the password to unlock the spreadsheet so I could anonymously make typos, change formulas and hide nasty comments in the very last row/collumn. :sneaky:

So, I believe that the free download light be connected to your MS online account and not so much on the legitimacy of your current Windows installation. Then again, maybe I just had a really good pirated copy. :bucktooth:
