A crash helmet may have been a good idea.

He was wearing god as his crash helmet. The power of prayer works! Amen!

This is the fault of the motorcycle. His over-correction into the middle of the opposite lane was as boneheaded a move as the car made. Bottom line, the wreck was between the motorcycle and the vehicle going in the other direction.

Since the motorcycle had enough time and space to avoid the collision with the car, I'm guessing he wasn't paying attention and only saw the car at the last minute. He was also going against traffic by speeding and violating many basic safety items.

Missing mirrors wouldn't have saved him in this case, but it shows the mentality of drivers here. People just want to jump on a scooter and go. They don't think about the potential existential threat they face from something as trivial as getting from one end of a small town to another marginally faster and more conveniently than taking a pedicab.

Mirrors are important for traffic awareness and to also be on guard of people who may rear-end you while stopped. Add to that the lack of all other basic safety items...

This is why I don't drive motorcycles. Pedi-cabs aren't much safer though.
