I wonder if HE would share a ride with the Idiot drivers he refers to. I know I would not. DAILY STAR: Negros Oriental Jack
The city already sees trikes riding 10 deep and people sitting on top of jeepneys. How much more "sharing" can be done?
The record for sharing a ride in Dumaguete is one filipina girl with 14 expat boyfriends. Sorry, read ride in the wrong context.
The volume of traffic is not the biggest problem, I would consider the poor quality of the driving ability of the average driver to be the biggest contributor to congestion. The trike driver who stops in the middle of the road to talk to customers and unload passengers, the crazy motor bikes whom drive all over the road as if they were on a dodgem car at a fun fair, the fact that one can get a driving licence by just paying for it, the general lack of following driving laws and regulations, the poor quality of the roads in general.
I don't think they are slowing down the traffic, they are going around it......I'll admit I'm one of those crazy motorbike drivers (when in Rome, eh?). What I usually see as the cause of the slow traffic, because I rarely wait at the end of the line, are trikes stopping in the middle of the road, big trucks/buses trying to navigate through town, and people who don't have the nerve/experience to be driving in Asia (almost always Asian women who have no concept of how long/wide their vehicles are). Many times when it comes to a standstill it's a person waiting for an invitation to make a left turn....drives me absolutely nuts.
One of the major things I see slowing down and disrupting the traffic flow is when I am turning a corner there are 1,2 3, motorcycles aimed right at me, in my lane ! Therefore I have to stop when I shouldn't have to. Very disruptive to traffic flow.
Just flash your lights, honk your horn and nudge your way out there. No need to stop, we will avoid you or stop. The law of gross tonnage applies.
