After reading a news article last week that the Indian government are phasing out all public transport and goods vehicles over 15 years old,low and behold the copycat government are trying to do just the same! I can't see that happening anytime soon as there would be no public transport left!

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will gradually phase out public utility jeepneys that are at least 15 years old, LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez said in an interview on "News to Go" on Monday.

However, Ginez said the agency has yet to finalize the conduct of the phaseout as it is still in the middle of consultation and dialogue with stakeholders.

"Ang amin pong inulit-ulit wala pang final decision on this matter. Nagkakaroon pa lamang po ng mga kaukulang konsultasyon at dialogue with stake holders," Ginez said.

Members of the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations on Monday held a transport holiday to protest the plan.

According to the members of the transport group, they have yet to be consulted as regards the phaseout.

Ginez said the phaseout of the PUJs was part of the LTFRB's modernization program to ensure safe and convenient public transport for commuters

Could it be possible they also include the 2-stroke tricycles as well....................if only for cleaner air and other environmental purposes.

Sure they could add it to the law......just like they once added that no trikes are allowed drive on national highways to a law. Lawmakers are just talking to themselves, no one really pays any attention to them.

I dont think age matters it should be based condition and road worthiness but this would mean inspection then the money under the table would kick in.And on it goes.
