I'm away overseas at the moment so just a question that I hope someone can answer for me. My wife is coming back to Dumaguete next week, our car is a week overdue with it's registration, as she does not drive can we with the LTO suspend the rego for one year or is it a case of me arriving back whenever and not only reregistering but copping a penalty as well? Your thoughts please. Eric the Red.
I know that in some European countries that possibility is available, provided the car is parked inside a private garage or compound but definitely not on the public road. In the PH, I really have no idea. My guess, non existing. You will have a 100% guarantee to get a penalty when the renewal of the registration is beyond the deadline.
I believe this is possible but you will need to turn in your license plate. I couldn't imagine what kind of nightmare, long waits and expenses you might have when trying to register it again though. You will very likely have to pay the late fees regardless if you suspend the registration or not. I'd rather just keep the thing registered than deal with getting new plates, stickers and whatever other nonsense they are going to ask for when you want to drive it again.
Yes you can suspend the registration but you need to go to LTO to accomplish it. I think you may have to surrender the license plate also. You can call the Dumaguete LTO at 422-0422 and maybe someone could assist you.
So, the OP would have to come back regardless to either pay the late fees or turn in the plates. If he still wants to drive it I would go ahead and pay the late fees and penalty. You and I know how much of a headache it is just to get a plate. I am looking into 2 months min and that is because he would already be in the computer system.
Just like others have said. Its probably much easier and cheaper just to get the registration renewed and still let it sit while second option is keeping it parked and when need to update resgistration later pay the late fee's. The whole process of suspending it and then getting it back is a nightmare I would think and I wouldn't be surprised if you went to the LTO office to do it they just give you blank stares instead having no clue how to accomplish it.
Okay thank you for that advice and as mentioned ,handing your plates in would turn into a nightmare of epic proportions. Sometimes I wonder if they have a LTO think tank, their task is to conjure up scenarios to hamper, penalise, frustrate, financially drain all customers. They would need tissues to wipe away the tears of laughter at their latest endeavours, proposals, with a prize every week for the best and most outlandish penalty to inflict on the public. Possibly then it could be a template for Noreco 2,Smart,Globe etc, sorry I can't go on ,have to buy some tissues.
