The son of a retired colonel was shot dead while at a drinking spree at about 10 p.m. Wednesday in Dumaguete City. Police identified the fatality as Ian Soledad, 37, of San Jose Extension, Barangay Taclobo, Dumaguete, who was declared dead on arrival at the Silliman Medical Center in the city. His companion, identified as Elmer Lapu-lapu, also of San Jose Extension, was wounded but is now out of danger. Their other companion, identified as Police Officer 2 Rey Burgos, who is the brother-in-law of Soledad, was on leave and unarmed in compliance with the Commission on Elections gun ban, and had to run to his residence to get his issued firearm, but the lone gunman was already gone when he came back, reports said. The gunman used a .45 caliber pistol, and the incident took place near the Rynbea store while the victims were having a drinking spree. Dumaguete police chief, Supt Jovito Atanacio, said he does not discount the possibility of a drug angle, even as the police are pursuing other leads based on the testimonies of witnesses. Unfortunately, doesn't say whether the father was a retired police officer or a member of the AFP, either way, one would imagine there was a certain lack of parental guidance if the victim was a known drug user. (Maybe ex, maybe not, whatever.)
Perhaps since the police heard from a witness (and not from any drug task force) the son was getting a bit of "guidance" on how to avoid the attention of law enforcement?
