French National and Filipina Wife, Son Found Shot To Death In Narra, Palawan – Philippines Lifestyle - Philippines Lifestyle
NARRA, Palawan- A French national and his Filipina wife, along with their 4-year-old son, were found dead inside a parked SUV along a road in Narra, Palawan on Tuesday.

Palawan Police identified the victims as 54-year-old Jean Marc Messina, and his wife, 25-year-old Jewelyn Emscel Badenas; along with Guiliano Steffal Venturillo Messina, the couple’s 4-year-old son.

The bodies of the victims were discovered inside a white Nissan SUV parked alongside the national highway just outside Narra.

Investigators are still determining the circumstances behind the murder scene – an area investigation into the expat community said that Messina frequented the yacht club in Puerto Princesa City.

Those same expats said that Messina was traveling to Narra to collect money owed to him

Wow, that sounds like a VERY personal murder. There had to be some real hate there for them to kill a 4 year old child.

    RIP.

Palawan is no longer a paradise. Our friend Jean Marc Roger Messina (aka Giovanni) his wife and baby were all murdered this week: hands tied and all shot in the head in Narra (execution style).

Giovanni was a bit controversial in his stance and methods to protect the coral reefs in Palawan. He was always combating dynamite and cyanide traders and politicians involved in this. His big love for Palawans coral reefs probably led to his his death (not confirmed and other theories are out there). And whatever will be the reason the police states, no family deserves this.

I wish I was able to say that we will continue his struggle but we are also experiencing plenty of issues and are no longer sure about our safety .

I've heard that it had to do with trying to collect on a loan given to a local. That certainly isn't verified though. Given the remoteness (and the backwards culture you find) in Palawan we might never know the real reason behind this tragic murder. I think the government should come down hard on this one since a freaking 4 y/o child was executed! Though a government would never be allowed to give out the appropriate punishment for a person convicted of such a crime. Painful and agonizing torture over a very long period of time is what I would sentence such a person to.

Sounds like a good motive to some people I would imagine. Shame he, his wife and child died in such a horrid way. I in no way am justifying or condoning this horrible tragedy! Just looking at a possible motive. Pure speculation on my part though.

But why the wife and child? So awful. Perhaps they could identify those responsible

Even so, they could have spared the child's life.

And yes they should have spared the child. That being said it's pretty obvious that the child could have identified the killer/s and such had to be dispatched at the same time as the parents. Been reading all here and also several newspaper accounts of what happened (real or imagined). The reoccurring statement is that he was an advocate of no dynamite fishing and coral destruction. It is quite widely known that the dynamite fishing and disregard for the coral is exchanged for food to feed the masses. Long before Giovanni came here and (unfortunately) after him this practice will continue and be accepted as a way of life/survival in certain areas of the country.
IMHO..... pick your causes carefully, do not p*ss off the locals who have run the area you are in for decades and regardless of your personal convictions think of the ramifications to your loved ones before you go out on a 1 man crusade against what you deem to be wrong with parts of this country..

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—Police have started a manhunt this week for a business partner of a French-Italian expatriate found dead with his Filipino wife and four-year-old son in Narra town in Palawan province last week.

A source in the intelligence community in the province, who asked not to be identified for lack of authority to speak to reporters, told the INQUIRER that investigators have narrowed down the probe to a business partner of Jean Marc Messina. The source, however, declined to name the suspect, who is also based in Palawan, while lawmen are pursuing him.

The source said the killing may be related to a failed business transaction between the victim and his partner.

“He (Messina) was apparently double-crossed by his partner in a trucking business they were engaged in,” the source said.

The victim and his partner were reportedly engaged in providing trucking services to a mining company operating in Quezon town.

Messina, 54, his wife Jewel and their son Gio were abandoned by their killers inside their pickup truck, which was parked by the roadside in the southern town of Narra.

Residents there found the bodies, already in an early stage of decomposition, on Jan. 29, leading investigators to believe that they were killed about three days earlier. The victims had bullet wounds in the head.
