Though there might be more to this story. Dogs can lick their own balls. How they could resist the temptation to go for more than just a quick cleaning is baffling to me.
You're in luck. It's all in the technique. Given the combination of age and warm weather environment, your balls should have plenty of sag to perform some of the exercises as demonstrated in multiple frames in the linked video. The key is to swing the balls. Get your hips and your balls in sync and roll with the momentum of the balls to swing them high enough that you can catch a glimpse of them. Be sure to do this exercise away from walls, furniture and anything else which might get in the way. The balls are sensitive, you don't want to smack them on anything. Make sure the cats are outside. They love balls.
