    Are there any expats in the Dumaguete area who really like to play chess? I used to play in chess tournaments when I was a teenager (but of course that was 30 years ago... we're talking about back in the Reagan administration, OK?). I was never much good: USCF rating 1214. But I still love the game, and would be happy to find some fellow chess enthusiasts. Playing on the internet is one thing, but actually sitting across from somebody with a real chessboard is what it's all about.

    Well I have a chess board WITH chess pieces :cigar:.

    I certainly have no rating - but do like to play.

    I live in Cadawinonan, but currently have no transport (car is being sold). Bacong is a fair way from here.

    I too played chess in my schooldays and played a few times online , I play chess the same way I played poker , terribly !

    There is a long-standing chess club in Dumaguete. I can't tell you where, I live in Sibulan. Here it's a set of tables in the park near the police station. Competition is good. There are tournaments. Weekends, tables are taken up by schoolkids.

    Team NORSU-SCUAA was declared the champion of the 2nd Mayor Sagarbarria Chess Team Championship tournament held Sunday at the Quezon Park in Dumaguete City.

    The winning team members are Juno Davad, Adrian dela Cruz, Marlon Visitacion and John Rey Galon, who received the championship trophy and P5,000 in cash prize; Sibulan Chess Corner team players Al Dumalag, Adji Alamillo, Sherwin Pinili and Tony Abiera were first runner-up and received P3,000 in cash and trophy, and the Don Bosco Shell team of Vincent Balena, Valerio Mangubat, Sara Francine Olendo and Alfonso Olendo, second runner-up, and won P2,000 in cash prize and trophy.

    Special awards were given to top female player Villamae Cabrera, top kiddie Alfonso Louis Olendo, top junior Genesis Borromeo, top collegiate Vincent Balena, top senior player Edmond Gaitan, top executive Nestor Tefilo, and promising player Jun Anthony Calibo.[​IMG][​IMG][​IMG]

    and I thought Tony Abiera is an ELO 2000 player from Valencia. or maybe I am mistaken.
