A man allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the third floor of SM City Bacolod afternoon on Thursday.

The Bacolod City Masskara Festival Facebook page posted a couple of photos showing the lifeless body of the unidentified foreigner sprawled on the mall’s tiled floor while security personnel were calling for help.

The reason of the suicide was still unknown but some netizens claimed that his Filipina partner cheated on him and left him for another guy.

According to other accounts, he has attempted to end his life inside the mall around 9 PM on Tuesday but he was stopped.

Photos of the scene have circulated on Facebook after the incident happened. 'Foreigner' committed suicide by jumping off from the third floor of SM City Bacolod - Kabayan.Me

Some people can not take the hurt and the hopelessness that follows when you lose the one you love and you mistakenly thought the love was mutual. Alternatively, in the Philippines there are many to replace the one you lost. Reality, it is really so much a crap shoot to find the "right" one. This sad story is a lessons learned for guys coming over here meeting a chick on the internet and falling into the burning ring of fire. Proceed with caution, you are walking point in a dangerous territory.

True, Pat, but let us also remember that it is a "target rich envrionment"! Instead of shouting " Geronimo" and jumping, he should have shouted " NEXT" and begun the search for his next " ex-gf" !

German National Jumps to His Death At Bacolod Mall, Negros Occidental

German National Jumps to His Death At Bacolod Mall, Negros Occidental – Philippines Lifestyle - Philippines Lifestyle
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – 40-year-old Richard Alexander Harbich, a German national, jumped to his death from the 3rd floor of SM City Bacolod Mall around 3 p.m. Thursday.

Oddly the strange news does not end there, it appears Harbich had attempted to kill himself two days earlier by the same method.

Harbich did not die at the scene of the attempted suicide, he died later while being treated at a local hospital in Bacolod City.

An investigation into the matter shows that Harbich traveled to Bacolod City last year to visit his girlfriend – but a concerned citizen found him sleeping at the plaza in late February and brought him to local authorities.

Harbich supposedly told authorities that he was penniless after his girlfriend took his money and valuables and he was forced out of the pension house where he was staying.

The investigation also noted that Harbich was in the process of fixing his papers to return home to Germany – but this is where we get the other side of the story.

Others that knew Harbich said he suffered from psychological, and other related mental issues.

Others involved with the care of Harbich when he exited the pension house, say he was prone to violent outbursts, lying, and making up stories that involved loss of money and more. Some are currently saying that he swindled people online as well.

Many who knew him and haven’t seen him in a long time thought Harbich had made it back to Germany, but now with his suicide, locals now know that his condition may have gotten to the best of him in the Philippines.

A quick Google search of "what height is deadly to jump from" (which costs only 8-10 pesos at an internet cafe) would reveal this important bit of information:
If the third story jump didn't kill your the first time.....and you were able to give it another go only 2 days later.....then perhaps you should have done a bit more research on how to achieve your end goal. Also important to note: it's not the fall that kills you it's the sudden stop. Doing it over soft ground or something that would cushion your landing would not be a wise move. (I suspect his first attempt was from a shorter distance or over some trees/bushes since he was physically able to walk into the mall and get over a fairly tall rail just 2 days later......so maybe he did figure out the sudden stop part by jumping from a place with a hard surface to land on.)

Because of that I believe him when he says:
The only part I question here is if she actually "took" it. I'd bet he actually gave it to her.

And since he did this at the mall with little consideration for what a lot of people would have to witness (and I bet he didn't have enough consideration/intelligence to even look before he jumped to make sure the drop zone was clear) I fully believe this:
Bacolod has many taller buildings where a jump could be made onto a side street where fewer people would need to see the gruesome aftermath.

If the mental illness was responsible for the stupidity and selfish behavior then I feel bad for this man. I believe that Germany has some decent mental health facilities and he could have gotten the help he needed in his home country. I feel even worse for the man if he didn't have anyone in his circle of friends or family (if that even existed) that didn't care enough about him to try to help him get the help he needed.

Suicides from expats and tourists are surprisingly common in Asia for some reason. Perhaps mentally ill/depressed people believe that a warm climate, a sexy lady and plenty of alcohol/drugs will ease their pain and suffering....I understand the brain is not functioning as it should when you have a mental illness or you're depressed but I personally don't believe those health issues makes people stupid in most instances. With the internet being what it is today the only excuse to remaining ignorant on an issue or problem is stupidity.....or if a person chooses to be willfully ignorant.

Note: I did go through a bout with depression when I was a teenager going through puberty myself (and, as most teenagers are, I was also quite ignorant on.....well, pretty much everything). I never seriously considered suicide though because I was lucky enough to have a family that cared enough to force me into seeing a shrink (and to get me medicine that countered the chemical imbalance going on in my brain) before it came to that. While my comments above might seem kinda harsh/cruel, I do kinda understand what the man was going through and I do feel for the guy's mental anguish.

Makes me think the Philippines should run checks before allowing entrance into the country. Checks against a history of criminal and medical records would be a good start. There should be an international system for sharing this information on people seeking a visa or entrance.

Not that this should infringe on our freedoms to travel, but crossing international borders isn't necessarily a human right. You could argue that we have the right, but you could also argue that a nation has the right to defend its borders.

This guy wasn't crazy because he lost his girlfriend. He was just crazy. Everyone has their ups and downs. When those lowest downs hit suicide zone, then there is a problem the gray matter which requires possibly lifelong attention.

Good thing they don’t do mental checks on those of us already in the country. Mornings at McDonalds might be mighty quiet.

I'm sure they considered this, before deciding: No checks, cash only, and lots of it.
