    Ah, we differ then. My need is continuous and I'll eat through all my load (without even turning on my phone/computer) if I don't have a promo.

    I can't do this either with my N5X. New USB type cable with the phone and an adapter is nowhere to be found in this country. :meh:

    Yeah. That is a Philippines problem, possibly understandable for latest tech. I think I know the cable you are talking about. USB 3.0 cable?
    I did mechanically tether most times as the simplest option. If the power went out I would have 6-7 hours on the laptop and a further 9-10 hours on my phone of internet. Backup batteries beyond that. I didn't have to physically tether the phone to the laptop as the phone had wifi hotspot capability. In the phone settings I enabled my laptop to use the wifi but nobody else could without the password.

    I actually like the cable....someone in the USB engineering department finally grew half a brain and made the d*mn thing symmetrical!

    I haven't had a look in the electronic stores here for about 6 months. Maybe it's time to try my luck again. :meh: (I didn't have any luck in Dumaguete, Bacolod, Manila or Cebu last time. I don't have high hopes.)

    I really wish I it were possible for my phone so I could get the d*mn thing rooted.

    I would have thought they would have a type C cable. The new phones that can send and receive data at USB 3.0 speeds, their cables I wouldn't expect to be available unless they came with the phone. Someone made a gadget for USB 2.0 phones that you just plug into the port and leave, it's magnetic works symmetrically like type C and your cable end they provide is magnetic and you just get them close together and they connect and you get charging and data transfer. It's amazing the stuff people come up with aftermarket.

    I thought that as well.......but they don't. I looked at every d*mn cable in every store in the malls in every city I went to because I got a deer in the headlights look when I asked for a Type C USB (or they just said "out of stock" immediately after I asked about it). The only hope I have is that the new Nexus 6P (6X, 6S....I don't know) is being sold in the Philippines) and it uses the same cable as my phone. At the time I was looking it hadn't yet hit the shelves though.....not that they would actually carry any accessories for the phone. :meh: I was going to order online but Lazada hates me and my payment methods. Not really that concerned with it at the moment though. What I have works and I don't really need root.

    Silly question but did you check with the Apple store in Robinson's mall. I believe the Mac's use one. See: http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MJWT2AM/A/usb-c-charge-cable-2m Not sure if this is what you need though?

    I did. At the time they didn't have any charging cables for the newer model iPhone.....as silly as that sounds.
