Hi, i need one extra person for my business, Movie Suites. The job will be easy, friendly, no streess: receive the customers, explain the rules/prices, manage the bookings/reserves, manage the cash, prepare popcorns, etc...and clean the rooms when customers finish. I would prefer to contract a person with good references and experience with customers face to face. The requisites are: -good level in english -good presentation (a beauty would be welcome more than an other) -24 years minimum -if have a college degree, better So, if you know someone that can join, ask him/her to bring the resume to Movie Suites, in Colon Street, behind the Crown Pharmacy that is in Real St, in front of Public Market. ITs urgent hiring, so the first persons will have an advantage. Thanks
Pardon me if I seem to be a 'bubble burster'. However, I sincerely doubt whether a college graduate would be willing to clean a room/suite or prepare popcorn, unless it was for a ridiculous amount of money. I would also study carefully where they have already worked, perhaps asking for references from former employers, (if you are letting them handle finances). Good luck with your hiring.
Can you share salary, SSA, days/hours, 13 month pay, vacation after 1 year? I think if it was me I might approach a person who meets your profile already with a job handling money and try and hire them away. You might then glean what pay package would be attractive for them.
In my limited experience (40 staff over 3 years) I found the best resource was present staff as they knew the expectations, wages, hours and benefits. Hire from within unless you are cleaning house...
You're expectations of college is a bit off from reality in the Philippines. College here is like high school in the US since kids are done with high school at 16. This will change though, as beginning this year, high school will extend to 18 (at least this is the case for the kids in my house, not sure if this covers all of the Philippines.) If you look through postings, you will see college degree requirements on the most ridiculous of jobs. And that degree doesn't necessarily get you far. One of seemingly most popular degrees here is HRM, which is exactly "clean a room/suite or prepare popcorn". BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management in the Philippines Career opportunities for BSHRM graduates Entry Level jobs Housekeeping attendant – a person who cleans, changes linens and places things in order in hotel rooms
I'd suggest taking it to facebook. All those you would want to hire are going to be on facebook and from what I have seen it seems that those here very rarely know someone through the family who would be interested or fitting for such a job. Usually its the GFs or wife's relative from the mountain or some such (never hurts to ask though). Maybe print up a few handout flyers and *accidentally* leave them on at a place with plenty of college gals (who may have family who already graduated and are looking). Not sure how to help though as its all word of mouth and word of mouth here is also often *word of facebook*.
Well actually, having had my eldest child graduate from a top medical 'college'/University in Cebu and another from an HRM course in St Paul's last year, I actually do know a little about the college system in Visayas. (The latter, having worked three months in the States as a prerequisite for her course, did practical training in Casablanca as a waitress, Hotel Esscencia as front desk, then was immediately hired after graduation for the only 5 star hotel in Cebu as the HR Manager's personal assistant.) Having been offered a job back in Dumaguete, for the same money, she works for a leading 'boutique' hotel here, on a one year internship, prior to going to the USA or the UK. While I agree with you that getting a general degree such as HRM, is merely advertising how far a child has been able to afford or has the ability/ambition to be trained, I think parental guidance and personal motivation of the said child are also important. When I graduated from university in the UK, the last thing I wanted to do was chartered surveying,(what they call geodetic engineering here), as there was no money involved in it, for years. However, having the degree, did prove to my prospective employers 'how far the monkey had been trained'. As I've told each of my children, education is power, especially in this country where unfortunately, not many have the opportunity to experience it. Of course, what they decide to do with it is up to them.
Well, my words was: -if have a college degree, better Of course, the hope of a person that finish university studies is not to work on a reception, unless that studies was that, as TheDude said: (BSHRM) The Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management Still, i will, of course, considerate more usefull to me a person with universities studies that another that dont have any, or just high school. Why? I dont think i really need to explain it, but education is the most important thing when you manage/work customers face to face. I pay a good salary, if you consider the standard salary here in Dumaguete, kind of generous, so i expect my employeers to work happy and motivated, no matter if they are engineers, have a master on literature, or never finish the high school. Maybe the guy from high school feel blessed while the guy from Engineer school feel on the sh*t, but you never know. I have had other business in Europe, and i already learned something. The most important was: it is not easy to find a good worker/employee, but once you find it, dont let him go. So, starting my business road here on the philippines, i prefer to start high and then go down as much as necessary to find the best combination between humble/devotion/commitment. Sorry for my english....thanks
