You can be out of Canada for the rest of your life and if you file your income tax report each year, your CPP payments can be deposited into your foreign bank account, there are Eleven different countries that the Canadian Government well do this for you providing you supply them with your bank info.
I will pass this on to my Canadian friends who are living in Canada for 6 months a year because of fear they will be cut off from their pensions...
You do not lose your pension but you will lose coverage of your Canadian Medical plan if out of the country for more than 6 months.
Keep in mind there are 2 parts to the pension. The CPP is a given. Totally portable. Its the OAS (Old Age Supplement) that we are worried about keeping. It is currently at $570.52 but gets clawed back depending what other income you have (or such is what I have been led to believe. Anyway, thats a good chunk of change if we can keep getting it while in Philippines.
I am from the province of ALBERTA and i can be away from Canada for seven months and not lose my health care benifits.
Iam from Saskatchewn an Jan 2016 they changed health care to 7 months but I called them an you can apply when you are back in Canada. the real problem is with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for filling income tax if you are out of Canada more than 183 days in calendar yr. you have to advise them and fill out some forms to determine what catagory of non-resident you are eg factual resident or deemed (like do own a house in Canada etc.) lots of info on there site but very confusing for me anyway. they might ask for OAS payback or partical amount, depending on catagory you are in determined by them.
See my note above- I am 70 and have received CPP since I was 60, OAS/OAP since I was 65, and my federal pension since I was 55.
OK, I have NO ties with Canada except my Canadian passport, and it can be renewed in Manila.I do not own property, business or receive health care from my province of BC in Canada. I fill out my income tax form and tell Revenue Canada I am a "non-resident" of Canada. I tell Revenue Canada also that the total amount of my pensions is all I am receiving as income. They are happy - I am happy. I can enter and exit Canada when I wish, if I wished to. I can reside anywhere in the world if I wish too - my only legal requirement is to tell them where I am residing.
