Actually, thinking about it and watching the reaction of Tom Cruise in that movie (in my mind I'm storming out of the BoI office saying, "Why the f*ck does it matter?! An exit clearance is an exit clearance! Why does it HAVE to be Cebu FFS?!"), maybe it is the BoI that has a Rain Man making up their rules. "Definitely definitely gotta go to 2nd Level J Centre Mall, A., Cebu to get your exit clearance." :banghead2:

Maybe we should be inviting the BoI out to a night of blackjack at the casino.

    • MAKATI CITY, Philippines – 58-year-old Lachlan Scott, a Canadian national, was arrested last week in Makati City on an outstanding felony warrant in the United States.

Scott is wanted for drug pushing and various other criminal activities.

The Canadian national was arrested at his residence in Makati City.

Scott was apprehended by the Fugitive Search Unit of the BI – the group was armed with a mission order at the request of Canadian and American Embassies in Manila.

The foreign national will be deported back to the United States to stand trial before a district court in the state of Minnesota. Scott was charged with violating the U.S. Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, where he introduced mis-branded drugs into interstate commerce – he is also charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, unlawful distribution and dispensing of a controlled substance.

Authorities at BI Fugitive Search Unit said Scott will be deported as soon as the bureau has secured the necessary clearances for his deportation.

At this time, the fugitive is now an undocumented alien because of the cancellation of his passport by the Canadian government.

Scott will now be listed on the official blacklist register for the Philippines, barring him from returning to the country even after he serves his sentence or is dismissed from the charges against him in U.S. court.

So these 600 or so foreigners with deportation orders might not be such a big loss for the Philippines.

What I find crazy is for what its worth its not a violent crime in the US and he's a Canadian w/o word on him having any Canadian crimes other then the supposed Canadian crime of pissing off the US. Yet they sought he out for extradition which means putting forth manpower to find him. I would think they would be more concerned with finding the violent guys first and focus on that and if the guy happens to land in their lap then take him. Just seems like there are far more dangerous criminals to focus on but he probably pissed off some big company (mis-labeling make-up maybe?, sold some counterfeit Maybeline eyeliner?).

FYI - The FBI has full time staff at US Embassy for the sole purpose of Fugitive Recovery Team for just such an occasion as the PI is the #1 country in world for money laundering for cash from questionable sources like drug dealing.

It was mentioned on the local radio this morning that the bi are actively seeking foreigners working on tourist visas and overstaying visas, for some reason dauin was brought up but didn't really catch the rest! maybe someone else heard about this!
Looks like the bi and nbi are having a crackdown on these issues.

I wonder how wide a loop they will cast. How about foreigners who make blogs and earn a couple bucks off the Internet? They could kick out half the foreigners here if they stretch this to the limit.

As far as I know on this issue if the blogs/website is hosted from another country it's ok but as we all know nothing is in cement here, they will do as they please.
