Everyone who has a dog here should absolutely vaccinate it against rabies. We didnt and learnt the hard way. If you suspect your dog has rabies. Here is what you MUST do EITHER 1: Lock the dog up in a cage for 14 days. If the dog has rabies it will be dead within that period 2: Execute the dog { we had ours shot on sight } - once dog is executed - you should immediately remove the head of the infected animal with a bolo and freeze it { in plastic bag } - Take the frozen head to the Vet clinic at provincial hospital and they can test the brain in 24 hrs { cost 250 p } if the animal is in fact holding the rabies virus. THIS IS IMPORTANT and can save you money - After 8 hrs of death, the animals brain will start liquefaction and all testing is useless If testing is negative your victim will not need the expensive treatment It cost us all up 6000 pesos for our dog biting someone outside the house { 4000 for victims treatment + lost wages } - Death by rabies is a gruesome horrible way to die and once it gets in the nervous system there is as yet no cure. You can expect to be strapped down in a bed in a padded room in the hospital, delirious and acting crazy. 1 hour before death there is utter lucidity and peace of mind.
Just an update for the follow up at Holy Child. I have gone back for my third and fourth rabies shots. I sourced the vaccine at the pharmacy there (2,086.56p each time including needle) and the cost to administer the shots for the the nurse in the ER has been 15p each time. Again can say I have been happy with the level of care I received at HC.
lucky you.. The victim of my dog attacked was quoted 42,000 php.. when told the dog owner had white skin and a long nose
