That would be nice but I think there would be a huge objection from the ferry company's here as they have that route tied up and make a small fortune! It would also have to be a massive investment as that channel is around 600-700m deep in places with very strong tides and rips.
I'd love to see that happen. However it will be extremely expensive and I don't know if I would trust Filipino companies (or Chinese) to do a strong and sturdy job which would be very much needed. I'd be thinking it would be something best to outsource to a highly reputable company. Why it never happened before is easy to figure out beyond protests of ferry companies and such a major reason is simply Manila. The entire country revolved around Manila and that is where all the real money goes. Manila has forced its superiority and dominance over the rest of the country for a LONG time. They make sure all the real money, building, infrastructure and so forth go to Manila and further the rest of the country is lacking beyond a couple of other key cities to help cover up the scam. If you look you see articles about new sports stadiums and the like being built in Manila when they already have them and sometimes multiple yet the rest of the country completely lacks such things. This stuff isn't paid for privately though by Filipino business's or foreign investors but by the government with taxes the rest of the country pays for. Duterte says he wants to spread the wealth so we'll see if he does or doesn't.
I agree and hope Duterte will fulfill his promises. I will be ready to move there after the dust settles from all the new construction. In Iloilo where we have our place they are building like crazy its a virtual boomtown with both gov and private projects. We have another place in Baguio but i would never live there it has way to much smog like Manila! We will sell that one if we can ever get through the red tape. Graft and corruption is rampant in that city!
