The tuna belly here is pretty good. I am thinking about trying tuna belly sashimi (raw with wasabi). Has anyone tried it or heard if there are concerns?

I'm sure you do more damage to your body sucking in all the exhaust fumes on the drive to the resto that you do from any minuscule amounts of mercury you might get from a bit of tuna.

Pat, I've eaten a lot of sashimi through the years and still love the stuff. My favorite is salmon which can be hard to come by here but I had a feast in Cebu last week at Grand Majestic buffet. Tuna used to be my favorite but nowadays it is relegated to 2nd place. I even had flying fish sashimi here on Siquijor at a Japanese restaurant in the mountains, it was excellent.

Never Never eat raw fish unless it has been frozen for at least 36 hours, most fish have parasites and by freezing it the parasites/small worms are destroyed, i buy it fresh and always freeze it before the sushi meal. Ask any good sushi chef and he well confirm this, or just google it and see the picture of the very sick person with a stomach full of fish parasites.

I have eaten roll-mop herrings, they are raw and pickled, will the parasites still be active when pickled. not a joke BTW.

Depends on the strength of the marinade.
