    I was hoping to get a more plain english, practical answer from those that have been through it. I will contact them though. The pamphlet was helpful for what she has to do to keep payments but says nothing about how to qualify for and get the benefit to start with. The initial requirements is the part I have been having trouble finding.

    I haven't made a serious study because it's just a hypothetical for me at the moment but I think I can boil it down.

    Your biological children have citizenship derived from your own so you can jump though a few hoops to show they are yours and they can be beneficiaries of your SS.

    Your spouse on the other hand would be required to do virtually everything it takes to become a naturalized citizen to be able to collect on your social security.

    I don't see the point in not going that last step so she could become a dual citizen if you are going to go that far.
