I thought about going in the September time frame also. Does not seem to be convenient connecting flights (23 hours travel due to long layover if I remember correctly) from/to Duma though. In addition to all the regular tourist hot spots, Shanghai Disneyland opens tomorrow.

I didn't go to their site, just did SkyScanner and Expedia. best prices for the airlines they have is with PAL, 23 hours there and 18 hours back. Between the price and the time I figured we will probably just head to Hong Kong, easier/quicker/cheaper...

You should try (ctrip.com/english) or (qunar.com/english)
there a million flights on chinese airlines from Manila to Shanghai every day ( which operate at normal day time hours, and none of this cebu pacific rubbish flights to china, ALL RED EYE FLIGHTS , landing at the last gate of the airport), Same goes for your flight home
they are the best options for chinese flights ( I use these websites all the time, and as for Chinese airlines, you wont get none better) INMO

as for things to do , Shanghai isnt a patch on Beijing, in terms of this to do and see, and price of flights to Beijing and Shanghai would be the same ( flight time from Beijing to Shanghai is 1hr 30 minutes)

Visa for China needs to be done in Manila. It takes 4 days. (but you can get it done for you thru a reputable travel agent,so you, personally, do not have to make the trip)
